Hawks win 2 out of 3. Hawks played the starters against UNCG and started backups against ECU and won both but they were close. Hawks lost to UNC in the final by double figures. Apparently UNC got hot and were mad about losing to UNCG. Richmond didn't play due to injury so the Hawks were down a starter. ECU is without their starting PG and another wing due to suspension. Estime and Gary hit some 3's and Talley stepped up. Not bad. Hawks should be competitive in most games this year. They did get more boards than UNCG and ECU so that's encouraging.

Elmore didn't play either...must still be hurting with his knees (I think that's his issue). He could have really helped out as we need to roll 4 bigs.

Period 6 – UNC vs. UNCW
Williams switched up his starting five yet again in his team’s third and final period, rolling out a small lineup with Felton, Williams, Johnson, Pinson and Maye. The grouping forced tempo from the tip, scoring in transition on its first two possessions. UNC was also able to utilize its fullcourt press with the small lineup.
Pinson held his own in the post on the defensive end, while showcasing his playmaking ability on the other end, finding Johnson on back-to-back possessions for 3-pointers to push UNC’s lead to 17-11.
Williams switched back to a traditional lineup with his first full substitution, playing Woods, Platek, Robinson, Huffman and Miller together. The energy remained, however, as UNC eventually stretched its lead to 34-17 with two minutes to play.
The Tar Heels topped the Seahawks, 38-22, by shooting 65.2 percent from the floor, including 83.3 percent from long range (5-of-6). Johnson led UNC with eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, while Maye and Platek both added six points.

Exhibition highlights. Gary can really shoot it appears and Estime can stroke as well. They have 4 years of eligibility left.

Looks very solid to me! Shocked UNC lost to UNCG, but, it appears they took it out on us in the last session. Quality scrimmages against teams we will play, and one high level comp. This will certainly help us prepare for the season. Hopefully a good amount of money was raised to help the folks in need!

I would take very little away from results in the scrimmages. Carolina lost to UNCG, but they also ran a lineup of Walker Miller, Shea Rush, Andrew Platek and Brandon Robinson for a third of the game. I haven't heard how much money was raised, but it was a fun event.
I thought UNCW looked good. Cacok demands everyone's attention. For the fan bases sitting around that weren't familiar with him, they asked "who's number 15?". Almost everything was around the rim for him again, but he did hit a nice 9' jumper. Pinson drew a foul on Cacok as well, but I think he bit off more than he could chew. Pinson (obviously) created the contact to draw a foul on Cacok, but I don't think he anticipated the force he was running into when he made the decision. Cacok is a special kind of athlete.
Carolina force the tempo in game 3. I thought Talley got a little out of control against UNC, but otherwise looked good. Neal hit several three's, but most were created by teammates...just catch and shoot. He missed both attempts that I recall where he pull the ball on the floor. Estime only took one three that I recall, but he has a very good looking stroke.
I saw a competitive CAA team from UNCW. We still have questions at C, but I think we'll compete.

I just watched the highlights but I thought the guys looked good. It will be huge if Estime and Gary can contribute. I wouldn't be shocked if Brown saw significant playing time. I still think we are in big trouble if Marcus Bryan is playing big minutes. He tries hard and can pull some rebounds but he doesn't play significant minutes on a really good team. Hopefully Elmore has improved enough to get his minutes.

What do you mean "big trouble"? Just wondering. We might not have won an NCAA tournament game, but we've won back to back CAA tournament championships with him playing significant minutes.
Look, you have to face it. We're going to be a little thin at C this year, and his big body will help at times. Especially as teams go after Ca Ca and try to take him out of the game. We're gonna need someone like Bryan to get in there and clog things up.
He's not much of an offensive threat, for sure, but if he's learning after last year (which hopefully that's the goal of ALL players), and he can cut down on silly fouls, play his game and not try to do too much... he might be okay.
Let's not go singling players out for their perceived play before the season even starts. Especially players that had a big role in the success we've had the last few years.

Have to admit I was relieved to see the alley oops to Cacock! I was worried McGrath would move away from those, but the highlights looked like last year. The threat of Cacock should help the new starters and newbies develop their game. If defenders have to worry about a drive by a guard turning into a highlight reel alley oop, it will soften their defense on the perimeter. Add in some new shooters and we may not look much different than last year.
I'm feeling better just from those clips.

Mid Major Madness: UNC Wilmington and UNC Greensboro participate in Disaster Relief Jamboree
UNC Wilmington
Same tempo—different style.
UNC Wilmington has many new parts under new coach CB McGrath, but they were very impressive against UNC Greensboro. Defensively, the Seahawks held the Spartans to just two points in the first six minutes of the 13 minute period. The Spartans kept their poise and flipped the script to claw back into the contest before falling 19-16 to the Seahawks.
Devontae Cacok is looking to be even more of a force, if that’s even possible. On top of dding a mid-range jumper, Cacok is stronger and still punishing the rim from teammate alley-oops.
In their first competition against opponents in a different uniform, Coach McGrath has to be pleased with the effort of returning players in expanded roles, as well as the newcomers. The guards are the biggest question coming into the season with the graduation of Denzel Ingram and Chris Flemmings. The well isn’t completely dry as the perimeter has plenty of depth.
Jordon Talley led the way against ECU as the Seahawks pulled off another close game 24-22. Seahawks faithful should keep an eye on a couple freshmen, Jay Estimè and Jeffrey Gary. Both have the ability to stretch the floor, while Estimè also has the handle to create off the bounce.
UNC got hot in the final contest of the day knocking off the Seahawks 38-22. UNC Wilmington will be in the mix if they continue to develop their young talent and add in JaQuel Richmond, who is currently out with an injury.

I'll try to keep it nice. I just don't think Bryan is good enough to be a starter on a good CAA team. He will obviously get some minutes since we are so shallow at center but hopefully someone else steps up to take his minutes or I think we will be a very mediocre team.

Who played where and with whom the most?
Was Cacock mostly at center or forward. And if he played forward, who played center with him?
