Willie Taggart now a real possibility for Gators. He’s been contacted; boosters actively discussing (Reporting w/@sportsDen_live)

03-lmfao God...Oregon must be thinking "We have Phil Knight and all we get is one year of Willie friggin Taggart".

Good lord, that would be awesome. I live in Oregon. Duck fans are an insufferable nouveau riche breed.

Sounds like an opportunity to rehire Chip Kelly.

Wasn't Frost the OC at Oregon before he took the UCF job? Gotta wonder if Oregon/Nike throw the bank at him to outbid Nebraska if the job opens.

Honestly, does Taggart deserve all this hype? i don't quite understand what makes him so special that he would be getting consideration at a premium SEC brand.

He turned South Florida around. Jim Leavitt did a good job with them and then put them in the dumps. Taggart did a good job at WKU and there.

Kind of ironic that Leavitt is his DC at Oregon.

Skippy Holtz put them into the ditch.

Agreed, Taggart got the bus out of the ditch. But he really has no long-term record to brag about.

Taggart's record of player development is spectacular. He's taken a bunch of three star Floridians and built them into a dynamic, sustainable program. Think of what he could do with 4 and 5star kids.

Yes, but...

My point is that Taggart wins quickly but has not stayed in any place long enough to show that he knows how to manage and sustain a program.

And, in theory at least, he could be recruiting 4* and 5* kids at Oregon... It's "Nike U" after all.

One CBS Sports "journalist's" take on who gets the Tennessee job. Lane Kiffin is too much of a flake -
I think that ship has sailed but the writer makes good points. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/tennessee-coaching-candidates-six-coaches-who-could-replace-butch-jones/

RE: Coaching Carousel 2018... - BearcatJerry - 11-13-2017 11:10 AM

Tennessee re-hiring Lane Kiffin would be like Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons re-hiring Bobby Petrino.

They ***could*** but they would be showing their absolute desperation and stupidity in doing it. Petrino shafted the Falcons and Kiffin shafted the Vols. Why in the world would either team want to relive that?

<insert video of Kevin Bacon from "Animal House" here... Thank you sir! May I have another?>

i imagine they are done messing with an HC from the "minor leagues." i saw Cutcliffe from Duke getting mentioned. i actually think that's a strong candidate. i can also see Bobby Petrino, Tee Martin (if he's interested) and Chad Morris. i think it's bad business for Matt Campbell to jump ship so quickly. Honestly, he can probably parlay his current success into a bigger payday in Ames. i doubt Scott Frost goes to Tenn. He'll have other options himself once the carousel really kicks in to full gear.

I honestly don't know why Matt Campbell would ever leave. If he keeps performing like this (7-9 wins and a win or two over the Oklahoma/Texas cohort) they'll build a statue of him in Ames in 10 years...plus the dude makes seriously good money.

But see... Here's the rub with Kiffin. He IS a coach from the "minor leagues." Seriously. He's currently at FIU...can't get much more bush-league than that. His stops in the "Major leagues" have all been failures: he left Tennessee in the middle of the night after one season, he got fired at the NFL Raiders and USC...both in ignominious fashion. The word at Alabama was that he provoked near physical violence in dealing with Nick Saban. And now some writer thinks that Kiffin ought to be a candidate at Tennessee...because???

I think the other names on that list (minus Gruden) are better options. Fuente at VaTech is especially interesting.

Exactly...his team is so minor league, posters can't even pick the right F_U! (I had to 03-lmfao)

Seriously though, I bet they try to drop the bag, then realize no big names want to deal with that **** and end up with a Norvell/Morris/Frost type. I have no idea why Justin Fuente would want to leave VT, which is a better program with infinitely more national relevancy in the last two decades.

Yeah, my list didn't include Kiffin. i'm not so sure he's done coaching at the high D1 level, but he's going to have to do way more then troll ppl on twitter to get back to that level. i don't know if Chip Kelly would be considered at all but he probably should as well.

EDIT: my list was unrelated to any specific list published in this thread, but an amalgamation of names seen on twitter and the interwebs, fwiw

FIU/FAU...

Oh well, thanks for the correction.

All signs point to, Chip Kelly, taking the UF gig. Announcement could come as early as today, or as late as early next week. Initially it sounded like it was going to be announced Wed/ Thurs of this week, but apparently, Mr. Kelly, had some very specific things he needed done prior to completing negotiations.

Somewhere along the line UF pivoted from Mr. Frost, to Mr. Kelly. Lotta speculation on why this was the case. Either which way, they were 1a & 1b for the position all along with Mr. Mullen being a distant 3rd option.

Nebraska is gonna fire their coach, so one way or another our conference is likely to lose AT LEAST 1 of our coaching stars. Memphis's coach is rumored to be somewhere down the list for UT. Whenever they give up on their Gruden dream.

With Frost still in play I see UT going after him hard. tO$U would never hire a UC coach and UT will never hire a Memphis Coach... IMO
