ODU vs UNT Game Thread - AustinFromUNT - 10-28-2017 08:06 AM

The matchup of teams coming off tough losses, but for different reasons. Against WKU, Old Dominion put up their best game of the year, but still came up short. The Mean Green we’re flying high, but we’re quickly shot down by the Owls. Both teams will be looking to get a terrible taste out of their mouth. The weather for today is a high of 59 with a low of 36 and should be around 56 by kickoff and 43 by the time the game wraps up. I’ve got UNT coming out fired up in this one and beating ODU 42-17. That’s meant as no disrespect to ODU, but Seth Littrell tore new bum holes after that terrible performance @ FAU.

Below is a link to an article written by MGNation and posted on the Lions Den. He does a super job of previewing this game. Hopefully for us ODU fans, he got the score wrong at the end.

Having watched the Monarchs closely all year, I have concluded that they started the turn-around last week against the Toppers, and I believe the corner will be fully turned in Denton, and ODU wins it by ten or so.

EDIT: P.S. I grew up north of Dallas and really wish I could be there for this game. If you haven't gone squirrel hunting at Grandma's outside of Bonham or driven to Oklahoma for beer -- you just haven't lived! Cheers!

Not saying hunting and drinking isn't a fun thing to do, but... Why go to Oklahoma for your beer? Texas beer has a slightly higher concentration of alcohol.

RE: ODU vs UNT Game Thread - Side Show Joe - 10-28-2017 09:11 AM

Game Day. Finally! I am so ready to put last weeks embarrassment behind us. It is going to be cold tonight. Any of you ODU coming out for the game will probably want to bring at least a hoodie. I'll be in a coat. I grew up on Galveston Island. I can't handle the cold.

On a side note... Beth Marie's sells outstanding hot chocolate at the games. I'll be drinking a few of those tonight. ODU's fans will have to venture far into enemy territory for this luxury. Their stand is located on the home side of the stadium. Hope you ODU fans that attend enjoy the tailgating experience, but not the game. 04-cheers

Did Oklahoma ever have a lower drinking age than Texas?

When I was growing up the legal age in the Commonwealth was 21. But in Tennessee it was 18. Many teenagers from Bowling Green would make the 22 mile trek to the state line to buy. And many an 18 year old hit Printer’s Alley in Nashville to celebrate an 18th birthday!

To be factual there were always liquor stores here that would sell underage but there’d be weekends when you’d pull up to one of those and they’d tell you “They’re watching us tonight boys....you want to buy a pack of smokes?” Then you’d head to the Tennessee line.

Don't know about the drinking age in Oklahoma, but when I was younger, you could drive around with open beers in your vehicle when you were 18, smoke your cigarettes with the teachers, and have riffles in your truck's gun rake at school. Things have certainly changed. I know it sounds crazy, but the country felt like a safer place back then.

Hey, I'm talking about the sixties here. Every county in North Texas was dry, and the closest beer was across the Red River. Yep -- times have changed. I remember going to vote with my mother in my first election in '68. There were two referendums on the ballot. -- liquor by the drink and para-mutual betting. When we walked out of the polling place, she asked me if I voted for them. I replied, "yes I did." She then said, "It's people like you that going to ruin the great state of Texas." I guess we did.

Lawry is back and the not so mean green defense will have its hands full.

Expect this game to be closer than some on here think

RE: ODU vs UNT Game Thread - Magic95Fan - 10-28-2017 04:14 PM

Hoping for an injury-free game for both teams. But really hoping UNT puts this one away early.

I think the worst part of our TV deal is having to constantly watch the same commercials over and over again.

I vote for Facebook to stream all conference games. They provide a much better stream than ESPN 3.

Interception by a UNT defensive lineman.

This is a weird game.
