WOULD YOU RATHER??? - UofToledoFans - 10-22-2017 01:55 PM

2017 Nebraska 3-1 all time vs. MAC
2003 Alabama 3-1 all time vs. MAC

2008 UM 23-1 all time vs. MAC
2000 PSU 32-2 all time vs. MAC

RE: WOULD YOU RATHER??? - NIU05 - 10-22-2017 07:40 PM

Alabama,Mich , PSU then Nebraska in that order.

Alabama because of all that tradition and national titles. I'm penalizing PSU for all those years as an "East Coast" school. Nebraska is not in the conversation.

RE: WOULD YOU RATHER??? - NIU007 - 10-22-2017 07:43 PM

Maryland was probably a better win than a couple of those others.

+1

Props to both NIU and Toledo for those signature wins. That is all.

Michigan 3-9 and Penn State 5-7. Both had losses to bad teams.
So while the names are impressive the teams were not. The Boca Raton Bowl was actually a better win, but not from name recognition. It would be like owning a Bentley and you got a 4 cylinder.
I'm interested in improving all aspects of the program and the University. To build a
big time FB program you have to get beyond recruiting against G5 and lower level P5
programs.

RE: WOULD YOU RATHER??? - Motown Bronco - 10-23-2017 01:45 PM

I'd choose beating scUM more than any other P5 team in the country. So this poll was an easy one for me.

No thanks... NIU needs a rival that can win the MAC West more than once this millennium.

Well, he did say millennium. Those years are this millennium.

RE: WOULD YOU RATHER??? - HuskieJWN - 10-26-2017 02:17 PM

Shouldn’t the question be: Did you win a conference title this decade? Yes or No

In all seriousness, props to both teams for the wins. Also, obviously both nebraska and Bama have small MAC sample sizes, they aren’t in that geographical region.

It would be like if WMU beat USC and USC was 3-1 vs MAC but 54-3 vs P5. (FYI, those are made up figures)

NIU is closer to a BIG12 footprint and doesnt have to compete directly with UM and OSU for fans and such so I get the difference.

The G5 number is really impressive for NIU to crush vs. Nebraska. I suggest that as a talking point over, first ever MAC team to defeat them... It doesnt hit as hard as Nebbys first G5 loss since 200404-bow

Big wins are a source of team pride,

Fun to compare but past performance is no guarantee of future results.

RE: WOULD YOU RATHER??? - pono - 10-28-2017 03:58 AM

It's a legitimate poll. Who are the best wins in recent MAC history.

I'd say
1) UM because they are the both an iconic program, located in the heart of MAC country, and was played in the biggest stadium , 2) Alabama because they are an equally iconic program and the most dominant of the modern era
3) Penn St another huge name and giant stadium, but the fact this was over Joe Paterno, who was seen as the face of college football coaching at the time, makes it bigger. And, for me personally, I couldn't stand the obsession over his morally superior image, which never matched his actions even before it came out that he was helping cover up a child rape ring under the guise of doing good for orphaned and abused children.
4) Nebraska is a big name and may have the most loyal fans in college football.
5) It is a bit dated but I'd put LSU in here (Miami) as winning in that legendarily inhospitable stadium in huge and also because that was a highly ranked LSU team.
6) Clemson in the 90s (Miami or Marshall) was big
7) A few MAC teams have 2000s wins over Pitt, UT beat them when they were ranked top 10, not as big a name, but one of the recruiting rivals and regional powers on the East side of MAC territory.
