But yeah, society and advertising has pretty much convinced us that a diet is something you just "go on," when in fact EVERYONE is ALWAYS on a diet as a diet is just what you eat. So just make good choices and know what you're eating and how it will effect your body and weight. Education is a huge key. Also understanding that you need to have a 100% mindset to meet your goals. And I can now keep up with everyone in the class as well as being able to complete all the exercises properly. I've also now been practicing for my first official 5K in May. I'm currently just over 33 minutes which is fairly decent for a 51 year old. Good work.....Im not much of a runner but my wife has me signed up for a 5K also. It will be a very slow jogged attempt. My goal at the outset with the FF class was to be able to do 20 unbroken plank pushups. I could not do one at the outset. I did 7 last Friday..so..Im making progress...slowly. RE: < 200 - Redwingtom - 05-23-2018 02:30 PM Forgot to post that I ran my first official 5K on May 12th. I surprised myself finishing 47th out of 407 who did the whole 5K run/walk. Finished 2nd in my age group with a new personal best time of 28:02.9. I also started another total body challenge in April and am down another 16 pounds so far to 165. I have two more weeks to go and hope to lose another 8 before then so I can reach my next goal of 125 down total. We started doing an additional training after my normal M-W-F exercise class where we focus on one part of the body (legs, abs, or arms) and just basically do rep after rep to the point of muscle failure. It's a beast, but so rewarding when done! RE: < 200 - 200yrs2late - 05-23-2018 02:35 PM (05-23-2018 02:30 PM)Redwingtom Wrote: Forgot to post that I ran my first official 5K on May 12th. RE: < 200 - UTSAMarineVet09 - 05-24-2018 09:09 AM RWT, are you in a dieting plan? I dont know if you mentioned this or not. I did the Whole30 challenge (I dont know if I mentioned this either) at the beginning of February and ended up losing 35 lbs. I started at 197 and I am down to 162, which was my normal weight in the Marines. I have been able to keep it off for at least 3 months now. One of the main problems with weight loss is that society had told us a diet is something you start. But in reality, everyone is already on a diet as a diet is just what you eat. But yes, you need to have a plan, which is what I changed. And that change has to be a permanent change or it's basically useless. you can't just do something for a few days or weeks. I totally changed what I ate in April of 2017 and have not changed it since...and I don't plan on ever changing it back. The key to weight loss is diet and mindset and not as much on exercise. Another societal problem is we've been convinced the key to weight loss is getting to the gym. While yes, that helps and is necessary for some, it's not all that important. I achieved most of my goals by just simply eating right and walking. LOTS of walking. For me, I started using an APP and tracked everything I ate. Once you find out what you're eating and the nutritional content of it, you can then make the necessary changes to it to arrive at a caloric content that works for you. It's tough...and sometimes boring...but you MUST not allow your mind to waiver and accept things like "cheat days," etc. Good luck keeping it off. If you keep your mind on it, you WILL accomplish it.
