I argued with my daughter all afternoon - wahoowa - 10-15-2017 08:30 PM

She wants to boil our Thanksgiving turkey in oil, and I like to smoke it.

So, spin room that!

Eat out! Go to a Chinese restaurant. LOL

Seriously, make one of each and then sample the folks at the dinner and find out which one is better for the next year.

Hells no. Stuff it and put it in the oven.

feng shui? does that apply to turkeys?

Beats me, but I guess that my comment brings Tom in to the conversation.

LazyTom has done everything why not cook a turkey too. Ask him.

Oops, forgot. He's probably a vegetarian and tell you to make a Soy Turkey.

I can tell you one thing for a fact.

Tom can join my turkey table, regardless of how it is cooked, any time that he wants. My wife and daughter will also welcome him.

That's how we roll.

Hey, a Thanksgiving thread! Cool!

It's always nice to think about the history behind some of our traditions.

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity
peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and
glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon
our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, in the year
of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

G. Washington.

Turkey is disgusting. Theres a reason most people only eat it once a year

Had it cooked in oil once before. Didn't taste any different than baked. Cooks faster as well.

Thanksgiving meals suck, BTW.

A couple years back, we had a smoked turkey and a Cajun fried turkey. Both were great.

Cook it anyway you want, just don't mess with the football games.

No football here. I'll be hunting until thanksgiving day (5 glorious days of hunting), and then after that I plan on frying a wild turkey after I clean the lead out of it.

Havent you done that now for a decade, if shes an adolescent? 07-coffee3

Dude. LET IT GOOOOOO, let it goooo, blah blah whatever.

Smoke that bird, and actually? Fry the other and even then, who's gonna complain?

Been through this EXACT thing not long ago.

Happy to have JMU folk "educating" our "Cavaliers%" backing us up.

Hop on board, the future is bright! 07-coffee3

Cook two. Thats how we do it. We have one fried and the other either smoked or baked. The fired one is the best---but its hard to fry any bird much over 13 pounds

Ham.

RE: I argued with my daughter all afternoon - UTSAMarineVet09 - 10-16-2017 08:37 AM

I've always said... dont mess with tradition. Cook it in the oven, throw a few slices of orange on top and glaze it with some honey.... she wont even remember that she argued with you about how to cook it.
