College Gameday - Ewglenn - 10-08-2017 01:03 PM

I saw JMU is hosting College Gameday again this week and got to thinking; where on campus would they setup shop if they came to Liberty? How long until College Gameday comes to LU? Realistically who would you think would create enough buzz that we have scheduled to host it?

I would like to see 2022 against BYU at the Snowflex. How awesome would that be for a first time?

RE: College Gameday - GE and MTS - 10-08-2017 02:20 PM

Liberty vs. Virginia Tech, Virginia, Notre Dame, BYU would be the best ones.

I've never been to the Snowflex. I think they should have it where a huge crowd could be held, preferably near the football field. Maybe in the parking lot near the ice hockey arena. They could shut down the road between North Campus and the indoor practice field. Have the monogram in the background of some shots.

LU does have some unique features that one would think would be appealing to GameDay. Gillville, the Jokers, the flame bursts, a visually appealing setting. The Snowflex setting is unique but as mentioned earlier, the number one consideration would be the ability to have the number of students/fans. And remember, this all about the visual medium of TV. What's seen on TV is of prime importance to the producers who make these decisions.

I know it wouldn't be a lot of fans but you could make it appear that way. 1000 fans packed in there would look like 20k. Plus what better way to show case what all Liberty has to offer than from a mountain resort looking place? I was thinking maybe in front of the library?

Winning FCS championships, a strong fan base, nice facilities and multi year post season playoff runs are the foundation JMU has. LU has a good strong fans base but not as large as JMU, a one-year playoff appearance and no FCS championships, LU's facilities tops JMU's but that's not sizzle or attractive for TV.

Are you sure? Have you been in the Club at Bridgeforth Stadium?

FYI...JMU is days away from announcing and new basketball arena that is off the hook.

Anyways...LU should bring a lot people to Rocktown for CGD. It's fun and you can maybe get a sign on ESPN.

Correct me if I am wrong. My thoughts with JMU or LU in the following:
FB - advantage to LU, stadiums comparable with maybe a slight edge to JMU, but with the indoor FB/athletic practice field, edge to LU
Basketball - New Convo at JMU to be about same size as current Vines Center which is 8,000+ for basketball, JMU athletics site says current Convo size is 6,426 http://www.jmusports.com/facilities/?id=5, edge to LU
Baseball - JMU Veterans Field seats 1,200, LU 2,500 with Luxury boxes and more, edge to LU
Softball - JMU 1,200 seating with bleachers, LU 1,000 chair back seating with full audio/video production, edge to LU

I believe in most all instances, the above facilities are newer and have updated at LU with the exception of the new Convo at JMU. Share your thoughts and correct me if I am have misstated facts. All above info was from the JMU Facilities webpage.

This image is a great representation of some of the LU facilities: http://www.seats3d.com/ncaa/liberty_university/rt/?_ga=2.19284347.2108650819.1507493766-1198981529.1475372622

2022
(6-0) BYU or (undefeated Top 10 Va. Tech)
(6-0) Liberty
- LU coming off a 9 win season and bowl victory.
- BYU coming off a 10 win season, bowl victory, and currently ranked in the Top 15.
- No idea where they'd set up on campus. There are a lot of great places.

You guys have nice facilities...maybe it's a toss up.

After JMU build the new basketball arena, (building starts soon) JMU's facilities are new-ish, basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, football, lacrosse...just sayin'

Hope sooner rather than later. Actually I will take both sooner and later.

RE: College Gameday - NewTimes - 11-05-2017 06:40 PM

As a Flames fan, and a Miami Hurricanes fan, Saturday was a good day. I wanted to pull my hair out in the first half of the LU game. The LU first half was as sucky as defense as I have ever seen LU play. As incredibly as bad as a team could play. Plus the weather squelched fans from attending. The announced 14+k attendance was a pipe dream.

The second half LU responded playing excellent defense, and finally with some offense cohesiveness. Mosely had the heart of a champion with his play, coming back onto the field after being injured. His play had to inspire others.

Regarding attendance, I also watched parts of the UVA/GT game and attendance was also very light there also. I'm guessing UVA will announce their attendance at 40+k which is again a no way.

And I watched, glued to the TV, the VT-Miami game. Miami is regaining it's credibility with an awesome defense and there is somebody other than Bud Foster that can coach defense. And Miami is similar to LU. Opposing fans hate the Canes with their TurnOver chain, bling and glitz, because they are now winning meaningful games.

LU fans can see in the UofM what can happen to LU as LU improves and becomes relevant as a FBS team. Of course LU and Miami are polar opposites as schools with perception and identity. But strangely similar as how others perceive the schools. This is a great time to be a Canes fan. And I look forward to the time when LU can play with the appeal and recognition like Miami. Go Flames! Go Canes!
