Hard to win on the road with turnovers. I feel good about us in the MAC though. Santa is getting better every game minus the costly interceptions. They need to stick with him. He has alot of upside. Blake and Huff showed up big. Our defense is the real deal. Let's take it to the MAC conference this season!

All said and done, you were in a position to win and you didn't have the ball in the hands of your best player.

It's like the play calling at times is like a bingo machine, whatever comes up. It's sickening how they all do their jobs, can make good play calls and then just suddenly slow down, change it on a dime. And it costs you the game.

Yup. Run run run and win the game

It's hard to run run run when you're playing from behind the entire game. Pin this on the coaching all you want, but the team needed to secure the ball. It's that simple.

The issue was the drive where NIU bailed out the SDSU defense that was getting it handed to them by the run. You continue to run the ball and you walk away with a top 25 win.

The play call wasn't a straight-up pass. Santa made a bad decision and forced a ball in coverage. He's young and that stuff happens with young quarterbacks. Get over yourself. NIU is good. Season isn't over by any means and I like our odds at taking another trip to Detroit

You don't even give Santa that option right there, SDSU was getting rolled on the ground. We gave that game away with play calling. Overall a good effort, proud of the team, but no excuse for not pounding that ball and walking away with a W

Santa will cost us a game or 2, he can throw INTs, we'll have big wins and tough losses. We may be able to pull out an 8-4 season though, I didn't think that was possible a few weeks ago.

If people are saying coaching lost this game, they were not really watching. You have to play mistake free football to win against a ranked opponent on the road period.

I don't see how anyone who watched the 2nd to last drive does not conclude NIU walks away with the win if they pound the ball, SDSU had tapped out

Don't put trust in your quarterback? Dude. C'mon. Santa will learn and develop, don't blame this on coaching

Yes we could have ran the ball more had our QB not chucked it into defenders. Lots of ifs. That's football.

NIU could in theory run the table in the MAC.
WMU and Toledo both have more talent than NIU, however given the way this team played tonight, it should beat Toledo, CMU,EMU, BSU(handily) and have a shot at a much more talented WMU.

RE: NIU/SDSU game thread - BDB5yp - 10-01-2017 01:39 AM

Goodnight. GO Huskies. Beat Testicle State!!!

RE: NIU/SDSU game thread - Spudskie - 10-01-2017 01:40 AM

If that kick off return never happened...if we had one less turnover...

If...if...if...

This one is going to sting. I guess I wanted to see the glory days of 2003 again. You don't have many chances to knock off a ranked opponent. You can't afford to make one costly mistake.

RE: NIU/SDSU game thread - sterling1man - 10-01-2017 01:41 AM

NIU should win the next 5 games.

RE: NIU/SDSU game thread - NIU007 - 10-01-2017 01:41 AM

I don't know that Toledo and WMU have more talent. Toledo has a better, more experienced QB, and usually have good skill position players. WMU is probably better at spots also. I think it's pretty close, which is why our games against them are almost always close.

RE: NIU/SDSU game thread - SiegInc - 10-01-2017 01:43 AM

Maybe Santa would be more polished if Carey hadn't stubbornly hung onto Graham. Reminds me of the Grady/Harnish situation with Kill. We just can't seem to put away good teams, we hang with them for a while, but in the end we make too many mistakes or just run out of gas to compete.

Toledo has a poor defense.
There Offense and special teams is better than ours.
Given the way we played tonight, we might beat Toledo.

However you cannot beat a talented team like WMU by turning the ball over 4 times.

I agree the games are likely to be close ones and we may win.

Kudo's to NIU coaches for polishing such unheralded recruits.
Great improvement from last year.

Neither Toledo or wmu scare me. We have shut down level d here

Good game, you guys kicked our asses. Good luck the rest of the ways and win the MAC.

One thing though, that player that eye gouged Penny, brought discredit to your program. If I was he Coach, I would suspend him indefinitely.

Both are more than capable of beating NIU. The way those offenses spread the ball around will give NIU fits. Toledo is just as good as SDSU in my humble opinion.

If I was the coach, I would kick him off the team. There is no place for that at all.

Congrats on the victory. You have one hell of a team. Best of luck the rest of the way.

I never played football but I had heard that things happen at the bottom of the pile like players getting their fingers bent back etc, which I always though t was really crappy, though I had never heard of trying to poke somebody in the eye. No excuse for that.

We racked up stats but in the end made too many mistakes to win. It happens. I just wanted to see a good game and I got that. Our QB is young and hasn't played that much so hopefully he will continue to learn. Good luck the rest of the way.
