.....you should absolutely be talking about the ethics of college sports. But while you do please try to do the following:

1. Pretend like you are Sargent Joe Friday and just report the facts Ma'am!

2. Do not use the headlines to troll posters which you know would be affected to the negative by the news. In other words don't use the FBI investigation to provoke.

3. I know Auburn is involve through Chuck Person who got caught about as red handed as anyone can get caught. It is a fact of life and doesn't bother me. I only hope this will help clean things up everywhere. So I'm using myself here as an illustration. Talking about Person and how what he did might impact Auburn is fair game. Using it to hurl epithets and insults and couching it as talking about the news isn't fair game.

Now I selected Auburn because I haven't seen anything posted yet that seemed to me to be designed to provoke an emotional response from an Auburn fan.

There are however threads and posts that are beginning to cross that line where other schools are concerned. So....

4. .....consider yourselves to be on warning that if this situation is used for trolling you will be treated like people outside after curfew in a hurricane recovery zone. I will consider you to be looter and you will be dealt with accordingly.

5. There have been some great threads so far on this subject and some really fine posts as people reflect upon what needs to come out of this.
I've been impressed by the number of these kinds of posts and want to just encourage more thoughts along these lines.

*************************************************************

Now what I would like for you to do is not to comment in this open thread about the concerns I've expressed above, but to use this thread to post "NEWS ONLY" about any subsequent information that comes out about these FBI investigations.

So post the news, but do not add commentary on them in this thread. Let's use this thread as a go to for news to help cut down on duplicated threads about the news.

If you have something you wish to discuss that arises from the news then please place that in a separate thread.

Thanks! And I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on what should come in the aftermath of the investigations.

Oklahoma State subpoena details released after FOIA request from The Oklahoman.
http://m.newsok.com/new-york-grand-jury-seeks-evidence-of-ncaa-violations-by-osu-basketball-players/article/5567594
Excerpt:
Quote:The subpoena demands that OSU either gather the evidence and turn it over to a New York FBI agent by Oct. 17, or have a university representative prepared to travel to New York and appear in person before the grand jury to testify at that time.

The grand jury specifically is demanding that the university provide:

• The personnel file of Evans, the former assistant basketball coach.

• All NCAA certification forms, including drafts and student athlete statements for Evans and "all current students on OSU's men's basketball team."

• All communications related to the above certification forms.

• All documents and communications pertaining to financial aid, including scholarships, for all current student athletes on the OSU men's basketball team.

After the initial release, the FBI seems to have gone into deep hiding. Makes me wonder if something forced the release before the feds were ready to go public. Tipping their hand now means unlikely that anybody would fall for another sting operation.

You do not know how many more already caught under the sting operation. Just waiting for arrest and search warrants and other things from the prosecutors and judge.

They've made their first arrests.

None of those guys are ready to do time in prison, so they'll sing very quickly. Even Bruce Pearl will be shocked on how fast those dudes snitch on the rest.

Remember, the FBI is also trying to place real statutory charges on those who committed NCAA violations.so there's lots of kids and parents who will give up the goods and have no loyalty to any NCAA basketball coach or shoe company.
The Federalist discussed the FBI attempt when the need broke.

The first few were the "lights going on in the kitchen" at 4 AM. I'm sure the FBI has wire taps and is probably listening to those bugging out to cover their butts as they try to crawl under the major appliances of their institutions. Seeing who they talk to and listening to what they talk about is a great way to track down the networks of the guilty. Remember they didn't subpoena Nike until after this broke. But I bet they had already done their homework. When stuff breaks the guilty only call the guilty because they know the guilty know. They never waste their time getting stories straight with the innocent.
