Adidas-FBI ??? - solohawks - 09-26-2017 05:07 PM

Is anyone concerned about the Adidas scandal and how it relates to our program? We got a sweet deal in 2015 from Adidas thanks to Keatts connections.

While I highly doubt we did anything to get the FBIs attention i am slightly concerned the NCAA in an attempt to show they are concerned about the issue will investigate a program like ours. The old saying that Eastern Kentucky is really going to get it because Kentucky screwed up hopefully won't apply here buy I feel that we would be an easy target due to our success, past connection to Louisville and sweet Adidas deal

We had a good Adidas deal before Buzz showed up and switched us to Jordan.

Here's the article about the deal. Keatts got us hooked up. Not sure what we have now

Even if we're implicated in some way, overall this is a good thing. It's high time to expose the scummiest aspects of this game we love.

RE: Adidas-FBI ??? - 82hawk - 09-27-2017 05:15 AM

I'd like to think we were at the level of recruiting and status where Adidas cared who played at UNCW...but they don't. These guys were looking at future NBA players, future contracts, etc.

Exactly. Could Keatts have been associated with the Losuisville corruption? Maybe but it was most likely that other assistant. I hope for him, he was not involved. Doubt he'd be connected during his time at UNCW.

RE: Adidas-FBI ??? - Seahawk Nation 08 - 09-27-2017 09:03 AM

The FBI has been collecting information for 2+ years. Phone conversations, witnesses, etc. They've got it all. Puts a smile on my face knowing just how many people involved in college basketball are collectively sh*tting their pants right now.

No more shoe money going to kids as early as 13 years old. No more bribery and corruption. No more one-and-done players, who of course were the biggest money-makers. Clean up the game.

RE: Adidas-FBI ??? - Seahawk Nation 08 - 09-27-2017 09:13 AM

SportsCenter just reported that Pitino expects to lose his job.

RE: Adidas-FBI ??? - solohawks - 09-27-2017 10:36 AM

According to sources, Tom Jurich, Louisville AD, was asked to fire Rick Pitino, refused, both were fired

RE: Adidas-FBI ??? - solohawks - 09-27-2017 10:39 AM

Im worried UNCW will be an easy target for an NCAA investigation. It's easy for NCAA to bully small schools like us and with the Louisville and Adidas connection along with the quick rise, it would be very easy to justify investigation. Even if nothing happened they could cloud the program with the under investigation tag

I don't think so. Our success? Winning a mid major conference a couple/few years in a row?

They don't care about that. It's not like we went on a run in the NCAAs and embarrassed a bunch of big schools. Then that would cause me more concern.

I think the other posters are right about the investigation going after the schools buying top players and tampering with the honesty of the game, efforts that in the end brought big money to their programs. There's not enough money in our program to concern them. They're going after the bigs straight away, and Pitino's firing won't be the last. A big name like that won't go down without dragging others with him. Guarantee.

This is actually great for UNCW and all mid majors (IMO). It opens the talent pool back up across the board, and is gonna scare the shiz out of a lot of big schools right now. UNCW and other mid majors were just dealt pocket aces.

Just think...

If Keatts had waited just one more year, perhaps he would have had a shot at returning to Louisville and righting that ship.

I hope he's not implicated in this, as it would naturally blemish our program to an extent... but I don't feel sorry for him either.

If anything, a bruised Louisville just made his job at NC State a little easier. ...just a little.

Doubt it. I'm quite positive the school will want someone
with ZERO Pitino connections, and that makes sense considering.
He also might have made the move at just the right time, some ADs wouldn't want to touch him with the connection regardless of whether or not he was directly involved. Guilt by association. Honestly, makes you wonder if he knew about the investigation and struck while the iron was hot.

RE: Adidas-FBI ??? - bricksnivy - 09-27-2017 11:57 AM

This was an FBI investigation, not an NCAA investigation. The FBI isn't going to let a program go because they're too important, so I don't have any concerns about UNCW being dragged in so that the NCAA can save face and say they're addressing the issue without affecting their money makers. Like Nation said, the guilty will be exposed in this regardless of the name, institution, or head coach.

Louisville has had it's fair share of scandals, and while Keatts hasn't been implicated, it makes you wonder. It's also interesting that he made a move to NCSU (also an Adidas school). UA, Nike and Adidas have all been implicated, right? The guilty are nervous today for sure.

I thought about that too right after I hit send on this one. I could def see them going a total different direction for sure.

Additionally, yeah... it makes complete sense now why he was working a big deal as quickly as he could. Does anyone remember how much of his contract was guaranteed?

Who cares about the NCAA. After the FBI is through, there might not BE an NCAA.

Fran Frischila said earlier on ESPN that The NCAA were the ones feeding the FBI a lot of the information because they know they have no real authority, and that things are getting out of control with college athletics. Any real authority the NCAA ever had (which was really just a mirage anyways) has been significantly reduced or perhaps removed forever, starting with the events today.

This is going to get crazy, folks. Strap in!

I've thought about that as well, and my initial reaction is that isn't good for mid-majors. Will we not see the power-5 conferences join forces and exclude conferences such as ours?

Pretty positive that Keatts had no knowledge of this as it was no where on the radar until it hit yesterday morning. As for the NCAA feeding information I think that is Fran just making something up or getting fed a line from someone at NCAA. By all accounts the FBI had no contact with the NCAA as part of the investigation and this was most likely done on purpose as the NCAA has a vested interest in the investigation as it affects its reputation as much as schools.

Under investigation for what? Money was exchanging hands so they could get their hooks in future NBA players. Sorry, but we don't rate that sort of attention.
