Some Interesting NCAA Basketball News - CajunAmos - 09-26-2017 12:40 PM

Four arrested, and it looks like the tip of the iceberg. I could see a Louisville death sentence after the previous issues.

Four NCAA BB assistants arrested in alleged fraud scheme involving Adidas

The interesting thing here is Adidas being involved.

The fact that several of our schools are sponsored by their company, this could have an impact on their ability to sponsor teams in the NCAA.

Interesting that Chuck Person at Auburn was involved. That's Troy player Wesley Person's uncle who tried to recruit Wesley to Auburn. He's probably glad he didn't choose Auburn now...

This is going to be the sports story of the decade. Absolute game-changer at the highest levels and it will trickle down to affect everyone.

The NCAA will make sure we pay for the sins of these bigger programs.

This is the FBI, not the NCAA. They couldn't care two licks if you name is UNC or UNC-Wilmington.

I would bet ZERO

The point was to gain influence over potential high profile players headed to the NBA, don't think there was anyone trying to lure NBA prospects to Sun Belt schools.

RE: Some Interesting NCAA Basketball News - Usajags - 09-27-2017 12:44 AM

This could be a huge game changer in college athletics. Who knows how the NCAA will handle it, never know if this is what causes the "Big Boys" to break away so they can pay players legally and get out of the NCAA control.

I believe players should be able to make money off their own names, the NCAA has an out of date system. Today could change the world of college athletics.

We're doomed. We hired a former Louisville assistant as our basketball coach. (Though the NCAA has told us he was never under investigation)

So this is bad for us how?

Other than the slight chance that the big schools break away from the NCAA.

I think it's the opposite and could be very good for the mid-majors.

RE: Some Interesting NCAA Basketball News - CajunAmos - 09-27-2017 10:37 AM

I would think the biggest issue would probably be for those who have contracts with Adidas at this time.

RE: Some Interesting NCAA Basketball News - trueeagle98 - 09-27-2017 10:53 AM

This has little to do with players getting paid and NCAA rules. This is more to do with bribery and monopolizing top talent. They were investigating this like they would an organized crime syndicate. With the coaches (not players) being paid under the table and in Las Vegas hotels. The investigation is still on going and likely a lot more will be indicted.

The biggest impact for SBC teams, like others have said, would be the sponsorship by Adidas. Who knows what will happen with that. Hopefully nothing and just a few sacrificial lambs are fired and a heavy fine paid to the feds.

I thought it was interesting that they stated that this wasn't finished, just beginning, and "it will be better for you to come to us than us to come to you".

Louisville AD also kicked to the curb . . .

I don't think some of you get it. This isn't the NCAA investigating and the big schools threatening their name brand recognition. This is criminal, felony-level crimes. This isn't UT-Austin getting slapped on the wrist and SMU getting the death penalty. This is go to federal-level-prison type stuff here. This is career enders and reputation sinkers. Play your cards wrong and this is freedom gone.

This isn't the toothless NCAA against the "name" schools. The Power 5 have zero power with the FBI. The FBI holds all the cards with zero bargaining power on the other end.

RE: Some Interesting NCAA Basketball News - bluephi1914 - 09-27-2017 12:22 PM

One thing I see coming from this is the NCAA banning Adidas from participating, in any way, with NCAA member schools and NCAA sanctioned events. The effect of that on Adidas will be huge. The NCAA will have to look at making that move once Congress gets involved and threatens to take away member schools' tax exempt benefits on sports related revenue.
