Only have the 2 games to go buy. Maine offense was mediocre vs UNH, dominated Bryant. Appear to be a stronger rushing than passing team. Defense appears to be better than their offense.
Offense avg 444 ypg (247 rushing ypg/197 passing ypg)
Defense yielding 365 ypg (121 rushing ypg/244 passing tpg)

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - Longhorn - 09-17-2017 11:04 PM

Maine is always a test, and will be again this year. The Bears new coach is young and aggressive. JMU can't be turning the ball over or giving up huge special teams plays or the results won't be pleasant.

Maine @ JMU thread - Potomac - 09-18-2017 05:09 AM

BDK, maine's game at UCF was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts caused by hurricane Irma.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - DirtyDukes - 09-18-2017 06:41 AM

I know he has bad numbers but their qb looks pretty good in the two games I've watched. Also Josh Mack has the ability to run all over us if we let him (which I don't think we will).

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - Dukesfan71 - 09-18-2017 07:06 AM

I am really looking forward to Saturday. The CAA appears strong to me and I think this will be a tough game. We are obviously very good in all three phases which will make us difficult to beat. Close for 2-1/2 quarters and Dukes pull away, 38-17.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - Dadgum - 09-18-2017 07:30 AM

Limit the turnovers, penalties and sure up both the kick/punt return game on both sides and the Dukes should have no problem on Saturday. Maine always plays us tough though, just hoping there are no "swing door" situations on Saturday:)

I think if we shut down josh Mack, it's game over for Maine. They need their biggest weapon firing.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - Wear Purple - 09-18-2017 07:38 AM

Trott and his troops have proven they will take away the strong hand of the opposing offense. The only way to threaten this JMU defense is with a balanced attack and with high quality in both phases of offense. The Softies had no running game to turn to when Trott took away their throwing. NDSU had no threatening passing game to turn to when Trott took away their running game. Same for YSU. ECU was like the Softies.

We just need our offense and special teams to quit giving points away.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - Potomac - 09-18-2017 08:16 AM

National Stats for both teams through week 3:

Passing Offense:
JMU - 30th 62-84 254.7 ypg 9 TDs 3 Ints
UM - 63rd 33-63 197 ypg 6 TDs 2 Ints

Rushing Offense:
JMU - 3rd 334.7 ypg 12 TDs
UM - 15th 247 ypg 3 TDs

Scoring Offense:
JMU - 3rd 53.7 ppg
UM - 12th 41.5 ppg

Total Offense:
JMU - 2nd 589.3 ypg
UM - 21st 444 ypg

Passing Defense:
JMU - 15th 152.7 ypg
UM - 85th 244 ypg

Rushing Defense:
JMU - 11th 56.7 ypg
UM - 36th 121 ypg

Scoring Defense:
JMU - 10th 12.7 ppg
UM - 27th 18 ppg

Total Defense:
JMU - 5th 209.3 ypg
UM - 45th 365 ypg

Turnover Margin:
UM - 1st +8
JMU - 42nd +1

Bottom Line: Shut down their run and exploit their pass defense and it will be a very long game for the black bears. Given that Maine leads the country in TO margin, I think we're going to turn it over at least one time and that would be a "good game" in that respect. Lets hope it doesn't result in points.

Ok, I had just copied and pasted their schedule from earlier. Fixed it. So Maine gets a 350K check from UCF for UCF breaking the contract, and another BYE unless Maine can get Ga St, Ark St, or someone else who had a game cancelled with an open date on 9/30 to play Maine last minute. 7-4 with 2 I-A games would get them in the playoffs, as would 7-3 with 1 I-A game. Anything short of that won't. As the article states, this really doesn't effect their playoff chances.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - jmufan2008 - 09-18-2017 08:51 AM

Is this the first game where a team puts together a 50+ yard TD drive against our first team defense? I give it an 80% chance.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - jmu007 - 09-18-2017 09:30 AM

I'd like to make a motion that we list the true defensive points allowed stats:

5.6 ppg.

I honestly wish they kept such a stat. What is allowed by a team's defense, when you take away opposing team defensive scores and special team scores.

It's even 2.3 ppg if you're just counting first team defense scores. It's 0 ppg if you're only counting first team defense scores for drives longer than 25 yards.

Okay, we're cherry picking a bit.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - JMU - 09-18-2017 09:37 AM

Looks like we are giving up about 7 points per game due to turnovers and special team scoring?

There doesn't appear to be many tickets left. Couple be looking at the first official sellout of the season

I know the HS bands took up 2 to 3 sections in the northwest corner of BFS Saturday, but I was very pleased with the student turnout for NSU. Much better than any 2nd home game of the season I've seen in the last 5 years. Hopefully, the students are going to continue to come on out. The Upper Convo was hopping even bigger than normal for the home opener, but was near the same this past Saturday. Great to see.

RE: Maine @ JMU thread - Potomac - 09-18-2017 10:08 AM

Yeah the student turnout last weekend was the biggest shock of the day. I can't recall a second home game student turnout that good in probably over a decade. The best I've personally seen.

At it's peak, the student sections were maybe 75-80% full.
