CUSA trades bowls - Saint3333 - 09-13-2017 08:16 PM

CUSA loses its only bowl game with a P5 tie in for the Armed Forces Bowl. Another step back.

What bowl and what conference did they trade with???

Ultimately, bowl tie ins don't mean as much when we have more bowls then elegible teams. The chances of a 6 win team being left out is slim these days.

I expect a contraction over the next couple years, one already has gone away.

They gave up Dallas whatever Bowl against Big 12 to Big 10 in exchange for Armed Forces Bowl against Army.

Its only for this year. They are back in the HOD bowl the next 2 years.

Are they? Its September. The thing is, the only reasons I can think of for this swap to occur will be just as valid next year. I mean, sure, the site says CUSA will be back in the Bowl next year....but this time last year, the web site said CUSA would be in the Heart of Dallas Bowl THIS December. I honestly dont know why CUSA would agree to the swap.

I doubt they had a choice.

Judy MacLeod takes the title for worst commissioner in the FBS.

Poor CUSA.

Which is a bad sign for G5 conferences.

Just for this season. Of course they could revisit after the season to keep it this way.

I wonder if this could be something like the MW did with the Las Vegas bowl. However, you could be right. It would be sad for CUSA to lose this bowl however as only the MW and the AAC will be the only G5 conferences left playing a P5 school in their bowls.

RE: CUSA trades bowls - Usajags - 09-14-2017 05:27 PM

ESPN owns most of the bowls, it's all up to what they want.

Setting a dangerous trend. If the remaining bowls are shuffled, there may be no reason to include the NY6 bowl either. Administrations may see this as the simplest way to cut the cord.

The G5 access bowl is protected by the CFP contract. However, when the current deal expires in 9 years...yeah, I mean--it's certainly possible it could go away. I think it's unlikely, but it's certainly possible. That said, I don't see why the P5 would dump the G5 access bowl. The G5 access bowl has been very successful, has been well attended, has garnered good ratings, and has protected the P5 CFP deal from an antitrust suit----that last factor likely being the most important to them. Basically, it's cheap insurance that doesn't cost much considering how much they are making off the deal.

I suspect the landscape will look drastically different 9 years from now.

Yes, much will change by then, or in that year.
