Nice!

BTW, found this in the article:

Quote:Smith and Elrod also faulted U.S. District Court Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos for going beyond the scope of a previous 5th Circuit ruling instructing her to assess whether SB 5 had cured problems with SB 14, another voter ID measure Texas passed in 2011. Ramos ruled that original measure was tainted by an effort to discriminate on the basis of race and the measure signed earlier this year did not fix the problem.

"The district court went beyond the scope of the mandate on remand," Smith and Elrod wrote. "Simply put, whether SB 5 should be enjoined — as opposed to whether it remedies SB 14’s ills — was not an issue before the district court on remand."

Yea, lets make poor and minority people, who move more frequently, have to spend more to vote! Lets stop voter registration efforts for minorities! I think that's the GOP's argument.

Lets also remove their ability to vote through racist gerrymandering (also in Texas) and then allow the GOP to stonewall the remedies for multiple elections, right?

XACLY! their 'scope' has long been unjustified....

Yup, she wanted to make it about race and she did her best.

LOL. This whole voter ID thing is about racism. If it wasn't, they'd do what Oregon does, which is to make voter registration automatic.

Come You're In strikes again with the misgendering too.

Oh, and this illustrates perfectly why it's important who holds the office of POTUS:

U.S. District Court
Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos - Obama appointee
- Ruled against Texas Voter ID law

5th Circuit Court of Appeals
Judge Jerry Smith - Reagan appointee
Judge Jennifer Elrod - Bush appointee
Judge James Graves Jr. - Obama appointee
- Stayed District Court ruling 2-1

Its really about the Democrats wanting:
1) an easier chance to cheat and make up votes; and
2) their belief that study, lazy uninformed people who can't be bothered to register will vote for the Democrats.

You saying this doesn't make it so.

Another possible explanation is to bolster election integrity.

Make it national!

RE: Voter ID Law Greenlighted - olliebaba - 09-06-2017 12:36 PM

Make automatic registering will only create that opening for cheating. If you can't register personally then you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Even jurors are selected from the voter registrations. That's why many don't vote and if you went the Tommy way they'd be Ps'ed off royally.

Dunno for sure about Texas but in South Carolina whenever you move you are required within 10 days to update your address on your DL and vehicle registrations so this should not be a factor here.

Quote:Lets stop voter registration efforts for minorities! I think that's the GOP's argument.

Can you point out where this legislation calls for the end of voter registration efforts?

Quote:Lets also remove their ability to vote through racist gerrymandering (also in Texas) and then allow the GOP to stonewall the remedies for multiple elections, right?

So you are saying right here right now that you oppose "Minority-Majority" districts?

How can they afford to move more frequently? What's that got to do with obtaining an ID?

That's exactly the whole point of Voter ID laws. How long before you support poll taxes for black persons? Of course this is, in effect a poll tax.

Because poor people don't own their homes Renters move more frequently.

Some people don't even have drivers licenses.

Are the taxpayers going to pay them for lost wages as they spend 1 full day getting a new id every time they move to comply with the law? While white property owners don't have to do this as often, due to the fact that they're wealthier and own their own homes.

They can't find time to get an ID over the course of 2 to 4 years (depending on how often they want to vote)?
Why do you assume whites own property?
Why do you assume minorities don't?
