IRMA - Pete - 09-05-2017 07:56 PM

NOTICED NO ONE HAS BROACHED THIS TOPIC YET, BUT.....
CAN THIS HAVE AN EFFECT ON OUR GAME IN 2+ WEEKS?
DOES NOT LOOK GOOD FOR SOUTH FLORIDA, 9/5/17, TODAY.
WISHING ALL THOSE FOLKS WELL DOWN IN THIS AREA.

RE: IRMA - eastisbest - 09-05-2017 08:43 PM

Been mentioned on the Miami thread. Does not look good, can only wish the folks to be well prepared. Been down there while one approached. Usually parties and plywood involved. But nothing this big. A good organized effort to get everyone to point their fans SE, maybe they can blow it south of the Keys to die down a bit in the Gulf. We can send them some politicians to help out.

The islands chains are in real immediate danger. Not even sure how they can prepare?

RE: IRMA - H2Oville Rocket - 09-05-2017 09:00 PM

Puerto Rico is essentially shut down. There is a system of shelters in place but there's only so much they can do. Places like Hispaniola, especially the Haiti side are rarely prepared for anything of any magnitude. I have two brothers and a BIL, one in Houston, one in Sarasota and one in Mayaguez, PR. In all likelihood all three will be impacted by at least a Level 4 in the space of one month. Crazy weather.

South Florida resident here.

If this storm hits Miami at a cat 4 or 5 intensity, I expect Dolphins stadium to be out of commission for several months. I can't see the new roof remaining attached through this type of storm.

RE: IRMA - H2Oville Rocket - 09-05-2017 09:43 PM

Maybe a reversal of home dates? Much more concerned about our Florida Rockets but that might be a way to get the game in.

RE: IRMA - T4C8 - 09-05-2017 11:21 PM

No way we flip. In the order I see them.....game gets canceled, moved farther north, both get played in Toledo

RE: IRMA - eastisbest - 09-06-2017 10:33 AM

It's a creative offer though, switching dates. Messes with already paid for season ticket pricing I imagine as it won't add the revenue it was meant to, to UT.

Huricane affects Miami home schedule, yet Toledo gets Huricanes in back to back weeks...

The mayor of Broward County has ordered mandatory evacuations.

"This storm is bigger, faster and stronger than Hurricane Andrew," Florida Gov. Rick Scott said at a press briefing in Monroe County, where a mandatory evacuation is in effect for all visitors to the Florida Keys.

Andrew was a bad boy. Very bad boy!

I just finished putting up my shutters and packing my truck full of supplies. I plan on evacuating Friday. Not sure my house will be here when we come back ...

RE: IRMA - eastisbest - 09-06-2017 07:13 PM

Be positive but more importantly, be safe. Thoughts and prayers.

RE: IRMA - Boca Rocket - 09-06-2017 07:33 PM

Was suppose to stay at family member's home but they are leaving.
Unless things change I'm not expecting my home to be in one piece on Monday.

RE: IRMA - eastisbest - 09-06-2017 07:39 PM

Put it on the market. Within a day, someone from Jersey will pay double its value, in cash.

Godspeed! I can't imagine what you guys are going through. I wish you all the best down there. Let's hope this thing blows out further into the Atlantic and spares FL from major catastrophe.

RE: IRMA - Toledo Football 1st - 09-06-2017 08:18 PM

Hurricanes have a mind of their own, but on the weather report tonight it looked like they project Miami to be right in the cross-hairs of this thing. Hopefully it will just keep blowing across the gulf an collapse instead.

RE: IRMA - H2Oville Rocket - 09-06-2017 08:38 PM

Rocket Nation is praying for and supporting our brethren in Fla and coastal areas. Be safe-things can be replaced, people can't.

RE: IRMA - FtLauderdaleRocket - 09-06-2017 11:10 PM

We're staying put here in West Boynton. We are not in a flood zone and our home is less than 10 years old and meets all the current strict building codes required by Florida.

I'm certain that the house will take some damage but hopefully not too much. The worst part about a storm like this will be the lack of electricity for several weeks to months. It is still summer down here with temps in the low 90's daily and lows of 80 with high humidity.

Depending on utility service I'll update you all on Monday on our status.
