Not Enough Workers - umbluegray - 09-05-2017 01:00 PM

We've all heard immigrants (both legal and illegal) do the jobs Americans don't want to do.

Reality is they do the jobs for less money than Americans.

If the reason an employer wants immigrants is to they can pay them less than they would pay others then how is that not exploitation?

Summer employers hired American amid Trump visa squeeze

Quote:Trump has blasted programs that allow foreign guest workers to take jobs in the U.S. legally. “Widespread abuse in our immigration system is allowing American workers of all backgrounds to be replaced by workers brought in from other countries to fill the same job for sometimes less pay,” he told workers in Wisconsin in April. “This will stop.”

RE: Not Enough Workers - CardFan1 - 09-05-2017 01:42 PM

You can even see it here in Kentucky, workers do a lot of construction and landscaping work for sometimes far less than Americans but when They spend it, They mostly spend it with other like immigrant business owners. They really don't support most normal American grocery, eateries, Shopping centers. You find Them doing that at like minded businesses and flea markets that cater to those needs. Otherwise money earned is sent out of country. Not really helping local American economy . There are exceptions to this but not widespread.

It's not exploitation it's free market economics. Isn't that what conservatives claim to want?

Yeah, the only problem with your statement is that the free market still has to abide by laws.

If no illegals were here then employers would have to increase wages, benefits or both in order to attract employees.

Sure, increased wages would drive up prices, but the overall economy would improve because dollars wouldn't be bleeding out of the system.

RE: Not Enough Workers - HeartOfDixie - 09-05-2017 02:38 PM

Illegal aliens are a net negative to this country.

They should be found, rounded up, and thrown out.

I used to buy the crap about resident status etc. but the truth is the only answer is to round them up and get rid of them. Anything short of that will put us right back where we are now--winging over faux morality and gnashing our teeth over imaginary racists.

Why not have a guest worker program? That way people from Mexico who want to work here can and the employers can pay them less than minimum wage.

Where we are now? Where we are now is 4.2% unemployment, an improving economy and 20 million "illegals" becoming more American every day that they stay here.

What better way to show American exceptionalism. Unless of course there is another reason you want them out.

You're right. There is another reason.

I'm not a fan of criminals.

Is there something else you wanted to insinuate about me to try to smear me in violation of the AUP?

We've gone over this before breaking one law which by the way is a misdemeanor does not a criminal make.

Did you know that the average citizens commit felonies regularly?

Really? What would you do if you lived in Mexico and your children were in danger of being kidnapped and held for ransom, or recruited to join the cartel, or forced into prostitution?

I'm really interested to hear your solution.

We have 4.2% unemployment only because we have so many people sitting the economy out and counting on Uncle Sugar.
