Another week, another hurricane maybe for CUSA? - Fort Bend Owl - 09-04-2017 08:10 PM

Uh oh, Irma is possibly headed towards Florida. FIU, FAU and USM, we'll pray it turns east away from you at the last moment.

The 2017 football season may be the year of the cancellation and postponement.

Good luck all. Stay safe.

FIU is playing a home game. I can not see how it is not cancelled. FAU is playing at Wisconsin, but on the 16th, Bethune-Cookman (FCS) is coming down to Boca. We'll see how that game is affected (if it is affected at all)

This one could be nasty.

They reported it's a Cat 5.... hasn't been one of those since Andrew

175 mph. I have never seen one this strong and I am a Floridian. Luckily, they don't stay this strong for longer than a day or two and it is still 5 days away.

Emily, Katrina, Wilma, and Rita were all Cat 5 at one point in 2005 (I don't think any of them landed as Cat 5). There have been a couple others too.

I meant one that made landfall as a cat 5

Gotcha. Misunderstood you.

Didn't Dean and Felix make a landing as a cat. 5 sometimes in the 2000s?

It's up to 180 mph. Winds here, in South Florida, are expected to pick up by very late Thursday. Shutters better be up by then.

Been in South Florida for many years. This is the worst I've seen. No school in Palm Beach County Thursday or Friday. Getting the schools ready as shelters. Good luck everybody!

If a Cat 5 hits south Florida shutters aren't going to do much good.

It's been so long since a major hurricane made direct landfall some of y'all Floridians might have forgotten what those do. Just as a refresher from the Saffir Simpson Scale, beginning at 157 mph...

A high percentage of framed homes will be destroyed, with total roof failure and wall collapse. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last for weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.

Looking like this storm could be one for the record books, this time the winds look to be the worst factor, i dont think storm surge should be as big of a issue as if it was around New Orleans or Mobile areas . I truly hope people from Florida are getting things ready to get the Hell out. Go ahead and box up memory items such as photos or extremely valuable items like jewelry/ insurance info and wills. Do a dated video walk through of you house and property as proof to help with insurance calms. Just Be safe my Florida friends

I'm reading it's going to be moved to a neutral site but they need to figure out where. The UCF game is going to be played in Memphis.

Irma appears to be a hammer blow wherever she parks herself

RE: Another week, another hurricane maybe for CUSA? - HogDawg - 09-05-2017 11:26 PM

Get out. Get out NOW!

RE: Another week, another hurricane maybe for CUSA? - WKUYG - 09-05-2017 11:51 PM

I hope she hits a current the closer she gets and does that wide right turn that some of these storms end up doing. I think the worse case would be to come across southern Fla and to reform and strength over the warm gulf waters. If she does that this storm could do the double dip on Fla. South Fla and the panhandle

For a direct hit - no. But it is going to travel (it seems that way) on land about 80 miles before it gets to me, not to mention it may weaken to Cat 4 or even Cat 3 before hitting Florida.
We've been through several Cat 3 storms over the last 25 years (and a Cat 5 Andrew)
