CAA POTW Awards 2017 - Potomac - 09-04-2017 08:50 AM

CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Cardon Johnson, Sr., RB, James Madison (Newport News, Va./Warwick)

Johnson rushed for a career-high 265 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries (15.6 ypc) in James Madison’s 34-14 victory at East Carolina. In his first game back from an Achilles injury, the senior broke scoring runs of 85 and 80 yards as the Dukes beat an FBS foe for the second time in three years. Johnson’s rushing total was the second-highest in school history.

CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Kyre Hawkins, Sr., LB, James Madison (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar)

Hawkins recorded a team-best 13 tackles, including one for loss, in JMU’s 34-14 triumph at East Carolina. The senior linebacker headlined a Dukes’ defense that held the Pirates to just 362 total yards, forced four turnovers and limited ECU to one touchdown until a score in the final minute.

Sweet. The first two of hopefully, many, many POTW awards.

I wanted to take a sec and give a shout out to Jordan Brown. I thought he played a terrific game. Was all over the field. Though we then pissed away the good field position, his early INT was a lift to the team.

Most of all, he directed the defense. Almost like how a pitcher points to his catcher whenever he throws a no-hitter, when we go 59+ minutes while giving up one TD (on a very short field at that), then the director of that effort on the field deserves some credit.

Well done, Jordan.

Agreed. He played a fantastic game. He made a lot of tackles on runs either in the backfield or at the line, but was also back for a bunch of tackles in coverage and came up with some great plays deep.

Agreed. Have felt that way since the SMU game. No doubt he has benefitted from football discussions over the years with his brother (former Maryland starting QB CJ Brown). Our safeties are pretty bad ass.

Also, welcome back Rashad Robinson with 2 picks.

I LOVE reading the boards after big wins like this. Kudos all around, great work Dukes. Performances like this make it so fun and rewarding to be an alum.

Definitely makes the weeks go by faster too when you're waiting for the next game

totally agree on Brown, he's become an all around playmaker. coverage, blitzing, run support. solid, tough player.

RE: CAA POTW Awards 2017 - JMU - 09-06-2017 07:44 AM

NICE!! Two shout outs of JMU players....

Almost famous

Kiper: Aaron Stinnie, OG, James Madison

Great win for the Dukes on Saturday, routing East Carolina 34-14. They rushed for 422 yards on 9.6 yards per carry, thanks in part to their left tackle Stinnie, who flashed on tape. He showed powerful hands and blocked effectively on the move and moved defenders off the ball in the run game. At 6-4, 305, Stinnie, played defensive line in 2014 for JMU before moving over to offense. This is his third season as the starter at left tackle. He has great bloodlines, too. Stinnie's father, Phil, is the seventh-leading scorer in VCU history. He's 6-8. Stinnie might have to move inside to be a guard in the NFL, but he's an intriguing Day 3 prospect.

McShay: Cardon Johnson, RB, James Madison

The redshirt senior rushed for 265 yards and two TDs in the Dukes' 34-14 win over East Carolina. He also had two catches for 12 yards. Johnson helped put away the game with two long TD runs (85 and 80 yards) in the second half.

Their draft stock just went up big time when you're getting mentioned by Kiper and McShay in September. Keep it up boys!

That's awesome to get some love from those two!

"Other" is currently winning. I would suggest entering 'Cardon Johnson, JMU'

Yes "Other" has 69%. Somebody posted the link on the JMU Nation Facebook page so hopefully Cardon has a good portion of the "Other" votes! I just voted again.

Yeah, I have a feeling Cardon's going to win. Even if half of those 'Other' votes are his, he won in a landslide.

Also, the fact that he wasn't an option is ridiculous. The guy put up the highest rushing total against ECU from a single player since, what, like '03? His numbers were off the charts, and did it against an FBS team.

This. Plus, POTW should at least be on the winning team.

RE: CAA POTW Awards 2017 - Potomac - 09-25-2017 09:53 AM

CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Ezrah Archie, Fr., WR, James Madison (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional)

In his first career start, Archie made a team-high eight receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown in James Madison’s 28-10 win over Maine. The freshman wide receiver, who had made just three catches all season, had a long reception of 31 yards and snared a 3-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to help clinch the victory.

Should have had him on my fantasy team this weekend.
