A question for ECU fans - pesik - 09-03-2017 08:21 AM

everyone has been making the joke that ecu is bad for the AAC, as they suck in every single sport

but a legitimate question ive been thinking about.
if ecu had been passed up for usm when invitations where being handed out. ecu would have likely been a regular 9/10/11 win team in c-usa...and a regular cbi/nit team in basketball in c-usa

ecu can recruit and out talent most c-usa, but are bottom tier in the AAC..

and if you really pay attention to ecu fans they just care about winning and not as much about the opponents ..theyd be 50k strong and happy if they were the c-usa top dog (probably trash talking how they could beat anyone in the AAC)

the year before ecu joined the AAC, the ecu fans were hyped beating over-matched c-usa teams, a year later on a "better team" didn't do so great in the AAC and so began the downfall and ecu fan despair..i guarantee they'd have been happy finishing top 25 vs overmatched c-usa that year
..and ecu isnt some recruiting juggernaut you could argue theyd be better recruiting as the top dog in c-usa than a bottom feeder in the AAC

is the grass not always greener? is the AAC bad for ecu?

Damn. Pesik is not trying to troll, but this is going to piss off ECU fans.

ECU can compete in this league. For whatever reason their AD has just stopped trying to pay for the right coaches. It seems like getting to the American was the finish line.

ECU can be successful. They just have to get back at it. The first step is getting the right guy in the front office.

Obviously it is early, but if Scottie goes 3-9 or 2-10 does he get fired? ECU is a proud program.

This guy gets it. Our fans were raucous yesterday, even when down. We have a good he field advantage.

In terms of cupcakes, we aren't that far removed from laying the wood to likes of Case Keenum and crew (unless you consider that team a CUSA cupcake). We may be trending down but I don't see any reason why we can't succeed with the current teams.

Regardless, we are in for a long year and deserve all criticism because we fired Ruff.

I agree with that...Ruffin's final 5-7 team would beat the tar out of this ECU team.

ECU is suffering from deep self inflicted wounds right now. We crapped the bed with Compher and the way Holland and Ruff were let go. We have very passionate fans and at this point I would be all for cancelling the $50-$60 million dollar stadium upgrades and just buy out Compher and Mo and get the right leadership in place. We can build crap later but need to invest in coaches at this point.

When Ruffin was run out of town after 1 down season, many of us thought this was a be careful what you wish for situation at ECU.

Ruffin McNeill had his faults as a head coach. But he went 5-7 with a 3rd and 4th string taking snaps all season...and despite that we still lost (I think) four games by one score. He should have absolutely been given his final year to try to right the ship. Ruffin may have been a 7 or 8 win coach at best...who knows...but fixing the "trajectory of the program" hasn't really worked, has it?

RE: A question for ECU fans - DowdyPirate2 - 09-03-2017 09:29 AM

Yeah because we really struggled beating top 25 UH teams for conference championships.

Conference is irrelevant Montgomery sucks, Compher sucks.

20% of ECU fans at most wanted him gone. It's just the people with the money were part of the 20%

Id say more like the 20% that actually understood that the real coach(Reilly) left for Oklahoma and although they loved Ruff as a person understood that he was in fact a mediocre coach and his run was over. Unfortunately...We seem to have simply replaced him with someone that may be worse. That is on our AD.

Most ECU fans who followed the program closely knew that Lincoln Riley was 90% responsible for the success we had during Ruffs' time at ECU. I said on this board and others when Lincoln left that Ruff should have accepted a restructured salary of $600k and use the $400k-$500k towards a new OC and DC. He was a great father figure and Ambassador for ECU Football but he was simply not a solid HC. He would have been fine if we could afford to pay an OC and DC $500k each

So where could we have found the money to either A) allow Ruff the opportunity to hire good assistants, or B) pull the trigger on a Brady Hoke type replacement? I've joked about women's lacrosse, but seriously, where are our athletic dollars being spent? If our situation is so dire that the best we can hire is a career WR coach, we could be in trouble for quite a while.

Somehow JMU's AD figured out how to hire good young HC talent that does not require us to pay the coach what we are paying ours. I thought from the beginning we paying Mo way too much for someone with zero HC experience.

Our Athletics Budget is larger than yours as well. Just like Poppa Johns... better ingredients,.. better pizza.

RE: A question for ECU fans - 8BitPirate - 09-03-2017 10:30 AM

Bad leadership = bad teams. We need to start with replacing the AD and work our way down....

This X1,000,000

Can we get a group rate if we fire Compher, Mo, and Lebo at the same time?
