Will Patrick O'Connor make the Lions roster? - Luckeyone - 08-13-2017 09:47 PM

POC had one sack and a lot of hustle vs colts!

I had read that POC was down the list of the DL newcomers (this was last week).

Curious how Andrew Wylie did? I'll need to watch the game.

EDIT: POC was listed 3rd string DE.

POC also forced a fumble. The Lions have injury and suspension problems at DE. That should help his chances.

Not sure how Wylie graded out. I know he had a two holding penalties in the first half. He was playing left tackle.

Wylie had 3 penalties called against him in the first half. Radio guys were giving him air time for all the wrong reasons. I would imagine that Hyders injury helps POCs chances.

I assume POC is now 2nd string DE.

RE: Will Patrick O'Connor make the Lions roster? - EagleTough - 08-14-2017 09:46 AM

Hyder injury almost guarantees his spot, unless the team is now gonna bring in a couple more veteran free agents. Lions DE situation is terrible for the Lions.........but perfect for POC! Nice first game for him and Golladay.

Hmmm..I thought POC played well but no mention of him in this article:

Yeah, I read that article and 3 DEs not named, POC, got the press.

I do think that the Hyder injury increases POC's chances of making the practice squad.

Man, that injury (I was watching the game live) seemed like a typical play and then boom, he can't get up. Ugh!!!

RE: Will Patrick O'Connor make the Lions roster? - emu steve - 08-14-2017 04:36 PM

According to the Detroit News article:

Golliday (WR - NIU) is a lock. He has been very impressive.

Roberts (TE- TOL) - has been inconsistent but should make the team.

POC - is on the bubble.

I didn't think Wylie played as bad as it might have seemed by the number of 'negative mentions.'

*reads the title of the thread*
*scratches head wondering when was the last time anyone actually referred to him as "Patrick"*

Probably only his grandma calls him Patrick, haha.

Perhaps Christopher Creighton or Shaquille Vann called him Patrick.

Looks like it's a battle between POC and this Alex Barrett guy, who is a smaller pass rush specialist. Pat has the size, and he was drafted, so hopefully that and a couple more good performances in preseason, gives him the nod.

MLive's 2 cents about Lions players trending up or down after Colts game.

Mentions undrafted rookie FA DE's Valoaga & Barrett as trending up.....no mention of POC. Lions playing without their top 4 DE's right now.........a huge opportunity for these guys.

Norton and Roberts from Toledo trending down. Golladay from NIU the breakout star of camp so far, adding to the hype with 2 TD's against the Colts.

This will hurt his chances...

Dear Eagle King,
It depends. The guy from the Rams has never played in a game, and is listed as a defensive tackle.

It's true but I would imagine any added depth on the line works against him. Still think he has at least a 50/50 shot.

Agree, this guy is a DT, not a DE. POC's battle is specifically against the 2 other free agent DE's..........Alex Barrett & Jeremiah Valoaga.

RE: Will Patrick O'Connor make the Lions roster? - EagleTough - 08-27-2017 11:25 PM

Still losing the battle against Barrett & Valoaga................according to this guy:

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2017/08/27/justin-rogers-lions-roster-projection-20/105027794/

Barrett seems to be the clear leader, while Valoaga and POC are neck and neck.
