Glynn Hill is our new beat writer. Adam Coleman is leaving the Rice beat to coordinate high school sports coverage for the Chronicle. Make sure you follow Hill on twitter.

What's the average tenure of a Rice sports beat reporter at the Chronicle? 1 year?

@Glynn_Hill
@RiceChron

Maybe the assignment is an internship?

Summer program? You know, clean up the filing cabinets, make sure we have donuts on Friday, monitor the Rice situation . . . .

Makes sense that high school sports would be an upgrade over Rice sports

+1

Yep -- I saw both several DB coached games and several Austin Westlake / Cedar Park games last year.

Glynn has a good background: He's a graduate of Philly's Jesuit-run St. Joseph's Prep -- fellow alums include Alexander ("I am in control here") Haig, MVP NFL QB Rich Gannon, a host of Philadelphia mayors over the years, and Tom Burgoyne (the Philly Phanatic since 1993) -- and Howard University, where he majored in journalism (minor in political science) and was a sports editor and editor-in-chief of the college newspaper and a play-by-play announcer.

Glynn's had internships at USA Today and the Associated Press. Among his half-dozen awards: In 2014 he received the White House Correspondents' Association's first Harry McAlpin Scholarship, which was established -- 70 years after the fact -- to honor the first Afrcian-American reporter to cover (at the time, over the objections of the WHCA, BTW) a presidential news conference.

He also says that he enjoys expressing his individuality through his collection of multicolored socks.

Newspaper writers are much like buggy whip salesmen a hindered years ago.

Buggy whip salesmen were never #paid2tweet, however.
