Is the P6 Campaign working? - 8BitPirate - 08-04-2017 06:40 AM

Based on the Coach's Poll where the AAC received the lion's share of the votes outside the contracted conferences, is the P6 campaign starting to bear fruit?

Coach's Poll:

21. South Florida

Others receiving votes:
37. Memphis
42. Tulsa
46. Temple
49. Houston

Not yet. The rankings are based on the individual programs. The P6 campaign isn't why we're getting preseason attention.

Too early to tell.

Yes, starting to, based off the media review we've got. This should give us the edge in the NY6 chase over virtually every program not named Boise.

If even one major media source uses the term and they're not laughing when they do it, it's not only working, it's a smash hit. What impact will it have several years down the road? Who knows. Baby steps.

If recruits start buying into it it can't not work.

I mean... outside of the fact the term "Power 5" is utilized three times in the article, and "Power 6" is literally nowhere to be found.

Help me find where CUSA is listed. How about the MVC? Is the AAC included with the power conferences in this listing? Ok...well, moving on. Not expecting a 20 million dollar a school pay day, but AAC perception is clearly improving.

CBS seems to be on board lately.

CBS must want to bid on the AAC. I think Aresco may listen.

I would think that if they wanted to bid, they'd be printing stories about how we're on the edge of death all the way up until the agreement is signed. THEN they'd throw us on the power list. Buy Low - Sell High

CBS seems to always have been kind. Jon Rothstein has covered the AAC as well as anyone the past couple years in hoops. The TV broadcasts on CBS Sports treats us as if we are a power conference.
I've long believed that they would at the minimum have a larger chunk of our media rights the next go-round.

I really enjoy the quality of broadcast on CBSSN for both football and basketball. It has kind of become the de facto AAC Network lol. Its the ONLY reason I have kept my dish package.

RE: Is the P6 Campaign working? - pesik - 08-20-2017 10:06 AM

has the p6 campaign achieved its goal? no!

Is the P6 Campaign working? yes, 100% percent without question!!!!!

read ANY conference rankings with a description, 100% are comparing us to the p5. not the mwc, the usa today preview is the only preview that even mentions the mwc in the same sphere

as is, the p6 campaign has put the ceiling below us instead of above...if this campaign didnt happen all the perception would be "the top g5 for now", comparing us in a battle for mid major supremacy, as the top for now. "can another g5 take the throne?" would be the hot takes, with a perception ceiling that we could not go further

id rather read "they want to be a power conference but still have to close the gap more" than "the top mid-major conference" "the current top g5 league"

when i say the ceiling is removed, i mean if we ever truly had a p5 caliber season the media will recognize us as a power conference as we are already being compared to that (2 top 10 type season ), if the mwc did, the media will call it a cinderella season for a g5 conference

a perfect example is the MVC (the top fcs conference) according to every computer that ranks fcs, the MVC has been better than the mac/sunbelt/c-usa the last 4 years since realignment. they also have more p5 wins, and top 25 wins (fbs). no one cares or even notices..they are still just fcs...but if they had a major media campaign saying they are better than any g5 conference..some people might laugh and say they are fcs and show stats that they arent better than the AAC..but i guarantee you, media outlets will start including them in conference ranking, and if they had a season good enough to be #1 the media will credit them for it..without a campaign we dont notice, so we dont care, they are ceiling-ed as a fcs

CBS is one reason I still believe we need a real tier 2 break out next time. Maybe a Dozen FB and a doz BB games sold to a 2nd network. Not all junk games but some decent ones. Going to get interesting starting a year or so from now.

Voted "no," but the CBS article and the like, certainly does help. Time will tell I guess.
