RE: WAC Player of the Year Candidates - LopesUp - 07-12-2017 07:14 PM

GCU has 3 player of the year Candidates

Josh Braun-JB (The Mayor) can be a dominant shooter if he stays healthy. Last season's WAC Pre-season player of the year looks to win it this year.

Casey Benson-Pac 12 player who has played in a Final 4. He already will be the best ball protector in the league.

Keonta Vernon-Skys the limit for Keonta. Don't sleep on this dude. He has been working hard with DeWayne Russell all off season. I think he is going to surprise some folks

Who is better

Eli Chuha or Keonta Vernon?

Casey Benson!??? You're crazy. Braun and Chuha are my top two picks. Everyone else is unproven. Loften is intriging because he is a reigning POY of a similar conference like the WAC.

8 WAC teams. 15 players per team. Multiply the 5. Carry the 4. By my estimation, there are approximately 120 WAC Player of the Year candidates at this point.

No need to thank me. It's really just simple math, until any 1 of the 120 actually play a game in the 2017-18 season.

You don't like predictions we seriously get it.

From SU, Aaron Menzies if he stays healthy is a legit threat. Reigning FOY Matej Kavas is a dark horse. Gittens, a 3star grad transfer from Weber State, is a name to watch too

RE: WAC Player of the Year Candidates - NMSUPistolPete - 07-13-2017 12:09 AM

The incumbents are...

Josh Braun, Sr. - 2017 1st Team All-WAC, 2016 1st Team All-WAC, 2015 WAC All-Newcomer
Eli Chuha, Jr. - 2017 2nd Team All-WAC
Nick Dixon, Sr. - 2017 2nd Team All-WAC & All-Newcomer
Fred Sims, Jr. - 2017 2nd Team All-WAC

Moataz Aly, Sr. - 2017 WAC All-Newcomer & All-Defense
Shon Briggs, Sr. - 2017 WAC All-Newcomer
Jemerrio Jones, Sr. - 2017 WAC All-Newcomer
Matej Kavas, Sr. - 2017 WAC Freshman of the Year & WAC All-Newcomer
Issac Neilson, Sr. - 2017 WAC All-Defense
Gerard Martin, Jr. - 2017 WAC All-Defense

RE: WAC Player of the Year Candidates - gleadley - 07-13-2017 12:10 AM

How's this for a prediction: It's an 8-horse race for who will win the WAC this year!

Bold enough for you, Clarity?

RE: WAC Player of the Year Candidates - SeattleVandals - 07-13-2017 12:13 AM

If you don't have a prediction, dont care enough to have one, or want to be overly-literal about it, I dont see the need to post on the thread unless you just love being a smartass that much

RE: WAC Player of the Year Candidates - gleadley - 07-13-2017 12:43 AM

Wow. You're right. Now that you put it like thst...

Kimasa

I'm all in on Dan Kimasa to go beast-mode in his senior year and sweep WAC POY voting.

Better?

Ever since or even a little before the epilepsy-twitter incident you have been different, man. You always had good discussions on here and Twitter about WAC basketball. Not just passive aggressive sarcasm and standoffishness. Idk maybe just me. Hope you're doing okay, Gabe. I mean that. Especially if this Kimasa pick is serious, then I really question all this lol 03-wink

RE: WAC Player of the Year Candidates - gleadley - 07-13-2017 01:03 AM

I'm doing very well, sir. Thank you for your concern.

You're kidding about Kamisa, right gleadley?

Hahahaha for real.

Let us make our conjectures--it's what fans do.

My top candidates?

Ndir
Braun
Chuha
Neilson

So a guy who won poy in conference that is 2nd to worst in the country is intriguing. But, a guy who was a 3 year starter on a Power 5 (Pac12) school who he helped lead to an Elite 8 in 16 and the Final 4 in 17. Finished second in Pac-12 history with a career 3.23-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio ... 2017 Pac-12 all-academic second team ... Picked up where he left off last season with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.2-to-1 ... Became the eighth member of Oregon’s 80-win club Feb. 16 versus Utah, and finished with 90 wins in an Oregon uniform ... is not intriguing... Makes sense 07-coffee3

Casey Benson will definitely be a factor at GCU. I'm not sure he will be better point guard than Russell a season ago but I think he could really help the Lopes as a secondary ball handler playing the #2 guard; in tandem with either Carr or Milstead at the point. Benson is not a true dribble driving, facilitating point guard; if he were, he wouldn't have lost his starting spot last season to a true freshman at Oregon. Benson's strengths appear to be his high basketball IQ (exemplified by his impressive A/T ratio) and his three point shooting. He will give GCU some stability in the back court; and, probably work well and compliment Braun's game.

RE: WAC Player of the Year Candidates - Clarity - 07-13-2017 12:12 PM

Damiyne Durham will be the main scoring threat and will be carrying a heavy scoring burden with Airington and Basile gone. I'm expecting him to average 20 ppg. He will be a serious contender. I also think Shon Briggs is going to have a huge year. He was dominant in the NIT. A dark horse pick.

Yeah. Intriguing. Did you see who was recruiting Loften? In the other hand you have a guy that averaged 5 points a game. The purple propaganda machine is hard at it acting like Benson is some big time recruit. Maybe out of high school he was but if you think he is as good as Russell you know nothing. Now you picking Vernon over Chuha proves you are a hopeless purple koolaid drinker. I will now be referring to you as purple Frank.
