There has to be an IAAF invitation if you haven't met the standard. At least that's how I read the rules they posted.

I'm trying to remember - would she and Funmi Jimoh be the only two Rice American women now to make the worlds? There haven't been a ton of Rice American men there either - Bryan Bronson and then I'm drawing a blank (maybe Gabriel Luke was on a 4x400 - at least in a preliminary heat?).

ETA - actually I would have to think Regina Cavanaugh might have made a team or two in the shot put??

In Regina's day (the '80s) worlds were only held every 4 years so obviously fewer chances to make a team. I looked through the IAAF archive here and didn't see her in the startlists for '83 or '87. Per the Rice T&F books she was an alternate on the '84 & '88 US Oly teams.
