Rod Barnes to SJSU? - SeattleVandals - 07-10-2017 11:57 PM

SJSU's HC just resigned, and I think Barnes would be a great hire for them. SJSU was finally competing in the MWC and doesn't want to take too many steps back.

Thoughts? What would salary increase for him look like?

I could see Barnes being targeted by SJSU but he would be a fool if he went to that perennial loser. SJSU will probably hire an out of work PAC-12 retread. Maybe they will hire Former Washington State coach Ken Bone?

Yah, nonsense. Cam Dollar is their man.
Nothing to see here....move along.

Of note, SJSU hired the former CSUB womens coach...name escapes me right now. He in turn resigned for "personal reasons" as well after a year or two.

Barnes wants an actual step up probably a P5 move which I unfortunately have no doubt he will get at the end of this season. I bet the pay is similar as well. Already a few names floating around like Mike Davis from Texas Southern and ex-NBA coach Jim Cleamons.

RE: Rod Barnes to SJSU? - SoCalBobcat78 - 07-11-2017 02:14 AM

Tough time to lose a coach. I can't see Barnes going to another Cal State school. He is in a good situation right now and he should hold out for something better. SJSU will have a hard time finding a good head coach in July. I am not sure they coul find a good assistant coach at this point.

If you think an MWC school is paying the same as Bakersfield then you are woefully delusional. If Barnes has another successful season like last year the hottest coach in college basketball will be gone like a fart in the wind. No one is loyal. Aggie fans learned that the hard way.

RE: Rod Barnes to SJSU? - SeattleVandals - 07-11-2017 10:33 AM

SJSU is probably best to promote an assistant and reevaluate after the season

Maybe Nessman is available.

Perhaps. All depends on who, what they value, etc. Baseball's Bill Kernen could have easily made a lot more than CSUB paid him.
Also, it sounded like Weir had a list of issues, such as access to Pan Am, etc. Agree, money is large part, but not only factor.

Access to the Pan Am? Give me a break. That was one concert. Weir left cause he's a self loving, disloyal egomaniac. NMSU is not to blame for Weir and his disloyal, self loving act.

Yes, a concert was one of the items.

Not saying money wasnt an issue, but it seems not the only issue as you suggest. Lots of factors are in the mix when coaches are dissatisfied and look around.

You think Barnes is happy with everything? You think he likes playing in a high school gym? The high school gyms in Cruces are bigger and nicer. Is Bakersfield ever going to upgrade? Didn't you guys used to play at some nicer arena downtown?

RE: Rod Barnes to SJSU? - Clarity - 07-12-2017 02:56 PM

Happy enough to stay. You dont think he already got other offers? Your paranoia about your coach(s) doesn't automatically transfer to all the rest of us.

Now, paranoia about teams leaving the conference, that's warranted. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Yes, Robobank is there. If/when attendance warrents, I'd expect we would/will move.

RE: Rod Barnes to SJSU? - Clarity - 07-12-2017 03:41 PM

I'm predicting a lot of sellouts this year and we move to Rabobank for the 2018-19 season. Unless they are serious about expanding the Icardo which would be nice.

RE: Rod Barnes to SJSU? - RunnerBall - 07-12-2017 03:46 PM

Ziggy said there has been significant increase in season ticket sales (among basketball and baseball too). I don't know numbers though, nor what numbers would warrent a move back downtown. PART of the decision was also that students favored tje campus location. However, IF we keep up the momentum, prestige factor would necessitate a move.

I would....THINK....if attendance is good, many sellouts, you are maybe correct.

It would be hard to imagine attendance not ticking up more. Hell when they were playing Chicago State at the end of the year it was about 3000 I believe. There were filled watch parties for CSUB basketball in the NIT. This year people will care even more. I think at least half the games will be sold out.
