ECU?

Will they take $1,000,000 to $1

ECU? I just looked at the ECU recruiting class and noticed there was a 1 star signee. I had no idea they gave 1 stars.

An AAC school should never sign a 1 star HS hooper. You're better off keeping that ship open.

What about odds to win the AAC? Those odds should be much closer because Wichita State will be unprepared to face the rigors of the night in and night out AAC schedule.

So they are giving Cincinnati a less than 2% chance? I like those odds if I'm a gambler. We will be starting 2 seniors, 2 juniors, and a sophomore. UNC, Gonzaga, Villanova, and Wisconsin have all shown in recent years that experienced teams can go deep.

Agree probably our worst recruit in history. Lebo thought he was going to get fired and stopped recruiting. This led to him just throwing last minute offers out to anyone. Including this kid who I don't think even started at his high school. However he has a little height so Lebo went for it.

Vegas is clueless. Everybody here knows WSU won't even sniff the AAC Top 3.

I just watched Justin Whatley's highlight reel. He looks like a division II prospect at best.

RE: MBB odds to win it all - Aargh - 07-08-2017 08:29 PM

Don't give up hope for the ECU recruit. Ron Baker (just signed a second-year contract with the Knicks) was a 1-star recruit. But, I suspect there may be a difference. Baker didn't get much attention from the scouting services playing HS ball in a town of 3,000 people in western Kansas.

I'm not into betting, but

20/1 for a natty? Nope.
10/1 for a F4? Getting interesting
5/1 for an E8? That would be awfully tempting.
1/1 for a S16? Playing out of the AAC, that's a good bet.

Lebo gave a full ride offer to a practice body

Uh... I don't know about anybody else, but I'd take a flyer on a 6'8 true freshman that can dribble coast to coast, beat a defender putting the ball behind his back, and finish under control with a reverse layup. That's not chopped liver at his height. Give him a couple years.

The results of CB's eye test equates to a solid 3* rating. Nice pick up ECU.

Not to be overly negative about a kid receiving a full scholarship to play the sport he loves, but he is hands down the worst recruit coming into the AAC next season.

If this kid sees the floor it's because ECU is either down by 30 with a minute left or because everyone over 6'5 has already transferred out again for the 2nd time in 12 months.

I have to agree. Here are more extensive videos of ECU's recruit, Whatley.

http://www.ncsasports.org/mens-basketball-recruiting/oklahoma/mcalester/mcalester-high-school/justin-whatley

There are guys walking on to various AAC squads that are better. Couldn't ECU have gotten Whatley to walk on?

RE: MBB odds to win it all - C0|db|00ded - 07-10-2017 01:52 PM

Naw, I'll defer to my eyes. His ball-handling and height make him an above average player. Add in a soft touch around the rim, nice jump hook, physicality on the block, and a propensity to finish above the rim on short warning and he's got potential. If he grew into his body late, he could turn out to be a really nice get. His attitude and intelligence will determine his ceiling as I think he has serviceable tools straight out of HS.

Way too early for all this basketball talk, let's at least get into football season before we start on basketball. My pick though since you asked, WSU, SMU, HOUSTON!!
