14 weeks to play 12 games? - cnyrocketfan - 07-02-2017 09:57 AM

The NCAA is considering moving to 14 weeks instead of the usual 13. Teams would get two weeks off every year instead of one. This happens some years but if this is approved it would happen every year.

if the MAC got out on front on this, they could use the change to reduce the number of weeknight games. currently, the league plays basically all of it's 2nd half games on weeknights even though only about a third are really on TV. the reason is that it is too short to come off a tuesday/wed game and play on a saturday but with a late season bye teams could do a couple of weeknight games and shift back to saturday for a couple games or vice versa. espn would still get their product but MAC fans could also get a a home game or two back on a saturday

pfftt. BS. They'd just use the flexibility to make sure that Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, et al are never playing a big game at the same time.

*Rabbit trail warning* - we seem to blame weeknight games for many of our woes. Didn't VA Tech build a brand in the late 90s/early 2000s by playing a good amount of Thursday night "exclusives" and shoving their name out in front of people? The non-student population of Blacksburg is mostly wildlife, certainly not a metro anywhere near the size of Toledo, and they still filled the place up. Sorry, stray thought there...

But as least Thursday are the start of the weekend for some folks. Whereas Tuesdays and Wednesdays are just Gawd Awful!!!!!!!!

Now, I'm not opposed to playing on Thursday or Friday night every so often, but 5 straight weeks of Tuesday / Wednesday in November SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
