OT. Frank Kush dies - cmhcat - 06-23-2017 02:20 PM

Brings back memories of 1976 Bearcat FB going out to Tempe and beating the Sporting News defending national champion Arizona St Sun Devils 14-0.

Unfortunately our head coach in that game Tony Mason didn't have such a long life he passed on probably about 20 years ago. One of the unique names of a Bearcat player was on that team Napolean Outlaw.

The Katzowitz recounting of the Mason tenure in "Bearcats Rising" was...colorful.

His true name was Tony Masoni with possible connections to the Youngstown underworld. Every Bearcat fan should have that book.

I remember the quite colorful jingle in the Mason era..."Coach Tony Mason - And his boys are facing - Some of the finest teams in the nation." I can't believe that stuck in my head all those years ago.

The Mason's must have lived rather close to us because his daughter Carey was in my grade and classes growing up in elementary school. Frost Elementary in (the once beautiful subdivision- not now) Seven Hills off Hamilton Ave. Loved that subdivision and that school. Carey was a little cutie....at least in my kindergarten through third grade mind. Would love to know whatever happened to her. Good memories. Not too good for the football side of it though.07-coffee3
