Must be nice....the Feds need to step in on Illinois....this crap has gone on long enough!!!!!!!!!! The people with a brain have had it!

RE: Buffalo Indoor Facility - dogdangit - 06-23-2017 02:55 AM

So that's the real reason behind dismantling 4 sports programs.

People with a brain also know that the state budget mess is not why NIU's enrollment is declining, the Master(bation) Plan is unrealistic, attendance at Huskie events is down, etc. The Feds are doing such a great job with their problems, surely they can solve what's wrong in Illinois. This faulty thinking has gone on long enough!

It's part of the reason.

Wow. Take off those Huskie-colored glasses, NIU007.
Exactly what part of the Springfield mess is driving down NIU's enrollment while ISU's is up?
Exactly what money from Springfield would have gone toward the Master(bation) Plan and how does that supposed amount compare to what's actually been raised?
Exactly how many people do you know who say the reason they're not attending Huskie events is due to the ineptitude of those Springfield?

Let's make it simple for the simple-minded: how much of the "reason" is that part? 25%, 12%, 7%, 2%, 0.75%?

Just for the hell of it, suppose you're right: so how soon have a budget is finally passed in Springfield -- be it 2018, 2021, or whenever -- will NIU athletics be guaranteed success?

If Illinois wasn't broke as Hell the tuition for in state residents wouldn't be the same as going to other public schools out of state. That is crushing the directional public schools in Illinois. You really love your political party so much you are blind and ignorant. Do your wear Democratic Party underoos under your suit and jacket? Think for yourself and stop being a lemming.

Unwillingness to find solutions and simply blame everything on the budget mess is what lemmings do. Think about your response: Illinois State's enrollment is up because it doesn't have a direction in its name? So according to you, if it wasn't for the tuition, no one would go to out-of-state public schools. Aside from you belief that tuition is the sole reason enrollment is down, what does that have to do with the going nowhere status of the Master(bation) Plan and attendance declining? If you've read other threads and posts, I place blame equally on both parties and my observations have nothing to do with politics .... and if you must know, my "underoos" are cardinal, black, white and gray.

I agree with uiniu. Lack of vision and leadership has been NIU's biggest issue, and it began long before our friend from Idaho was school president. I know the budget has been used a reason to not move forward with the master plan, but since that hasn't stopped any other school in the state from moving forward with projects funded from private sources, you have to wonder if the master plan haa any financial support at all.

If NIU was getting money from the state then tuition wouldn't need to be as much for NIU to at least break even. How is that hard to understand? I personally know people who went out of state because it was freaking cheaper. That never used to happen. It was always more expensive going out of state. It has exactly ZERO to do with the master plan or sports in general. And smaller enrollment would affect attendance PLUS the lack of budget means we don't want to spend a whole bunch on sports, even from private donations, when the whole university is undergoing money shortages. Not too hard to understand.

I am not a big Frazier apologist, I always took a wait and see attitude on that. And he might be more bluster than accomplishment, but there are limits to what he can do.

Perhaps you didn't notice, but the cost of going to college has been on a constant rise, so don't make it sound like if there was a budget, tuition would be affordable. At best, it may not have risen as much as it has.
Your statement makes it sound like the main reason the people you knew who went out of state did so strictly because it was cheaper. So was that attending an out of state Division I school over the same in Illinois, or was it trading a D-II for a D-I, D-II, or D-III in Illinois.
Exactly what percentage of those "students lost" in the enrollment decline can you guarantee would have attended Huskie athletic events? Again, if you hadn't noticed, student attendance at all levels of college athletics is down -- today's students choose to spend more time playing video games, incessantly glued to their cell phones, drinking/smoking/snorting/hooking up than they do being involved in campus activities. It's ridiculous to attribute the decline in student attendance strictly on a lower enrollment.
So it surprises you that under this economy when the entire university is undergoing money shortages that there are those who argue athletics isn't the main mission of education and therefore less should be spent on athletics? It surprises you that under this economy donations are down? But various charities, community programs, etc. are less affected than athletics.
As stated before, save these posts and explain again how soon --- one year, three, eight, 14, etc. --- after a budget finally gets adopted that all these problems will decrease notably.
Yes, it is hard to understand why simply having a budget passed is going to be our salvation.
Sorry, but I've known nothing but budget cuts for decades now and somehow we had to continue operating and yet expectations never diminished.

Buckle up. There will be no budget until. A Democrat becomes gov. Or a different republican. Rauner does not care about us. He is as close to evil as I've ever seen in politics. Right next to Madigan. Nothing until 2019. Can NIU and education survive?
