Didn't that happen last year?

This state has become a giant cesspool. I don't know if it will ever recover unless taxes are significantly increased. I hope I'm outta here before that happens.

The budget needs to get figured out this month, can't imagine a 3rd year of this. Chicago State and a few other schools may shutter up for the year or permanently if limited education funds are doled out sporadically again in 2017.

Moved down to Atlanta in 1991 . . .best move I ever did! (though I still made a lot of bowl games, Orange Bowl, Alabama & Tennessee games, home comings etc) Government Unions will NEVER cut up there, Georgia is balanced, and my property taxes will be reduced from $9,300 to $3,100 because I turn 62!

Guess what, the Chance program that I knew in the 70's just keeps rolling and spending today! Look at the corrupt admin at NIU, especially that CFO!!

I donated so much time, airfare, money, speaking engagements, etc to NIU, but NOT ANYMORE!!!

It is a shame what the politicians and the unions did to the state. The state, city and union officials all wanted their cut of the money and left the tax payers with the bill. I do not see any long term recourse except bankruptcy. Illinois isn't alone, New Jersey is about 5 years away from being in the same situation. I just wish the Universities didn't have to suffer, with the exception of Chicago State which is a hot bed of corruption and should close.

Interesting read. The state budget is a problem, but the universities themselves also share some blame.

That is problem with all government. No checks and balances. Fox in hen house. Just raise taxes and fees and tuition

More depressing Illinois economic news:

Look at the higher education tuition and retirement costs.

Powerball and Mega Millions will leave the state of Illinois if a budget isn't passed by the end of June.

John Salli billionaire
Maria Kanellis social media queen
Robert Zemeckis Legendary film producer director
Steve Harris veteran tv & movie Actor
Jimmy CHamberlin - drummer Smashing Pumpkins

I moved to Florida about the same time, for the same reasons.
But I have stepped up my contributions to the NIU football program; it needs the support now more than ever.

I will not let up attending athletic events, especially football, just no more checks handed over to spend on BS . . . . . We need to hook up for a game in the future!!

For example if NIU's theatre depertment could get half the actors listed here to do workshop or lecture about their careers, what they did to get to where they are now and provide some mentoring; that would have an impact on enrollment which of course would have a financial impact upon the university.

Robert Zemeckis would be a big draw for anyone with a desire to produce/direct films. Ned Colletti & Nicole Briscoe would be attractive for anyone wanting to build a career in sports media or with a sports franchise.

Didn't Zemeckis go to USC?

Thank you for that, that's very cool, I didn't see it in any other bio's except that he had "transferred after a short time." But if it is a couple years, then maybe he would be willing to help out.

Dear Huskies,
Just read two articles about the financial mess for the State of Illinois. After reading through this part of your blog, even with donations from all of the people that may donate, can you really raise millions of dollars from private individuals? Also, does your school as well as others in the State have the possibility of shutting down?
