Baseball program has to eat, too.

Not a good explanation with baseball..next

Playing 2 years a row in a Tuscaloosa really is a non-issue. I'd much rather us play Alabama in Tuscaloosa than play some SWAC or Southland school in Hattiesburg.

I was able to piece together the CUSA schedule for USM (and the 11 other member schools) based off the schedule releases of Louisiana Tech, Rice, FAU, Charlotte and ODU. Kinda worked like a process of elimination puzzle.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10RC0x5BxYnvCsoasCflVvzsNwuR0VkEdD5ZQE2XjOmM/edit#gid=0

Our conference schedule:

Week 1: UTSA
Week 2: at FAU (already announced)
Week 3: Rice (already announced)
Week 4: WKU
Week 5: at FIU
Week 6: Middle Tennessee
Week 7: at Old Dominion (already announced)
Week 8: at UAB
Week 9: Louisiana Tech (already announced)
Week 10: at Marshall

Brings us to the following schedule...

Feb 16-18: Mississippi State
Feb 20: at South Alabama
Mar 2-4: Cox Diamond Invitational (Eastern Michigan, Ohio State, Nicholls)
Mar 7: at Alabama
Mar 9-11: Georgia Southern
Mar 14: at Tulane
Mar 16-18: UTSA
Mar 23-25: at FAU
Mar 27: at Ole Miss
Mar 30-Apr 1: Rice
Apr 3-4: ULL
Apr 6-8: WKU
Apr 10: Ole Miss (Pearl)
Apr 13-15: at FIU
Apr 17: at SE Louisiana
Apr 20-22: Middle Tennessee
Apr 24: South Alabama
Apr 27-29: at Old Dominion
May 1: Tulane
May 4-6: at UAB
May 11-13: Louisiana Tech
May 17-20: at Marshall

That's 49/56 games with a date. Still looking for the weekend opponent from Feb 23-25. 4 midweek games too. UNO is a traditional midweek game, so you can pretty much pencil them in to be 2 of those. Just don't know the exact dates yet. Hoping for a March 13th game on the Lakefront, so I can make a Spring Break trip to NOLA out of it (already playing at Tulane on March 14th).

What about the MGM park games?

Yes, stooping to playing two years in a row IS an issue. There must be a reasonable explanation for this happening rather that playing a money game. Baseball doesn’t have to do it. And no, I wouldn’t rather Play a road game than a home game. Yes, thanks for your effort in putting this info together.

The issue is that the athletic program is basically broke and baseball is a part of the athletic program. EVERY TEAM has to do it.

Just a guess but maybe Alabama asked if we could switch years as they were looking for another home game in 2018? They will have their 3rd coach in 3 years so maybe this one is trying to balance out the schedule and Berry obliged to help out. The ath dept "needs the money" seems more plausible but with baseball already drawing good crowds how much more would a road game at Bama help out compared to having them play at our place.

RE: Offseason baseball thread - EagNBran - 11-02-2017 09:11 AM

Maybe I missed it, but who's our new pitching coach?

RE: Offseason baseball thread - nastybunch - 11-02-2017 11:49 AM

It wouldn’t, we would make more if it were here. That would be under my thoughts of a reasonable explanation if Alabama asked this favor. They do not need or need to count on a paltry baseball guarantee to bring up the whole athletic department. I will ask Scott when I see him.

Again, baseball has to eat, too. They use extra money for things like maybe flying to Marshall or the F_Us instead of busing. They get more hotel rooms on the road so they aren’t bunking four to a room. They try to do things like that to help the team. A trip to Alabama for a paltry $25,000 might pay for a lot of that for the rest of the season.

Like I said, you make more than that here...next

LeeMarcus Boyd and Mason Irby are your captains for 2018.

Kinda surprised Keating didn't get it.

RE: Offseason baseball thread - BeagleUSM - 12-12-2017 09:57 PM

Apparently this is holding up the release of the baseball schedule.
