Cody Livingston joins the UALR staff as a volunteer assistant. Good for him.

D1 is counting down the top 100 programs in college baseball over the next week or 2. Tech and FIU were both in the 90s.

It will be interesting to see where we end up. #88 in 2015 after missing 4 straight regionals.

Two tidbits I have to share: Storme Cooper will be back (saw him on campus today, ending any sort of speculation of transferring) and Berry lost his appeal. Caillet will be the manager for the Friday and Saturday games vs State to open 2018.

Here's your 2018 roster: http://www.southernmiss.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/smis-m-basebl-mtt.html

No departures that I see, aside from the few we mentioned a month or so ago. Looks like we added a transfer catcher from Eastern Michigan.

Berryballers are the 33rd best program in the country, per D1Baseball.

https://d1baseball.com/rankings/top-100-program-rankings-31-40/

The Golden Eagles have steadily improved their profile over the past few seasons. USM has strong tradition and made the program’s first and only CWS appearance under Corky Palmer back in 2009. USM made back-to-back postseason appearances in 2010 and ’11, fresh off that CWS berth. However, the Golden Eagles took an unexpected step back with four-straight seasons without a postseason berth. The good news? USM made a trip to the Tallahassee Regional two seasons ago before hosting and falling short to in-state foe Mississippi State in the Hattiesburg Regional this past season. USM has one of the better facilities at its level and enjoys a strong recruiting base with access both to the Magnolia State and Louisiana.

You can always tell who the good officials are immediately after they blow a call badly by how they handle the situation. With their almost immediate reaction to claim excessive arguing you could tell we got the bottom of the barrel here in Hattiesburg.

Berry was on the Eagle Hour on Friday. Said they're gonna rest Sandlin and Wallner this fall. Also said Keating had some surgery on his hand and that he'll be back later this fall. Interview starts at the 45 second mark.

https://www.supertalk.fm/podcasts/eagle-hour/?recording_id=24728

Pretty nauseating that he just sorta laughs off the suspension, BTW. His unhinged behavior cost him coaching 2 games of the biggest weekend series in school history (might be good for us though?). Hosts seem to be the type of USM fan that just blames everything on the umps/refs or the SEC. Zero accountability for the greatest collapse in Southern Miss sports history. Ugh.

Some pretty good matchups there

Decent tournament field. Still want another marquee home and home series. Quite surprised we can't work out something with Florida State.

Florida State is one of those programs that just doesn't play much on the road OOC, except for the occasional midweeker.

I will say this, I read the scheduling boards and see schools like Texas Tech and Wake asking for a 1-1 deal. Those would be great games. Charlotte has a 1-1 deal with Arkansas. ULL has a 1-1 with TEXAS (!!!!).

We're set the next 2 years with a marquee OOC opponent, but 2020 and forward, we need to try and get some quality series. If teams can't get it Hattiesburg, don't ask for a return trip. Just play there and make them pay us a guarantee.

Absolutely not.

We'll just have to disagree. I know how much you hate whore games. But if teams can't get to Hattiesburg (and it is very difficult to get here via commercial flight), I'd rather play a road series at Vanderbilt than a home series vs SIU-Edwarsville or LeMoyne.

RE: Offseason baseball thread - nastybunch - 09-26-2017 09:23 PM

No thanks...small time thinking. Berry knows he doesn't have to think small and schedule whore games...thus, the Cox Diamond Invitational
