UT Football Switching to Nike? - UTROCKET - 05-31-2017 04:24 PM

I have seen multiple photos on Twitter that have Coach Candle wearing Nike merchandise. I would assume Under Armour would have a problem with the coach wearing anything but UA? Most coaches have it in their marketing contract that they must rep the official uniform provider which makes me think a switch could be coming in the future?

I wish the athletic department would sign a university wide apparel deal with Under Armour, instead of having each team rep whatever they feel like. In my opinion it looks tacky and unorganized. There should be one "Official uniform provider" for all UT athletics.

Reports of a switch to Nike have been around for a while, although I don't remember seeing a press release or anything.

Pretty certain we switched to Nike.

When did this happen? I haven't seen any press release and also just about all the recruiting on social media still references Under Armour.

Signing with one of the creators of this college sports mess. meh, cry like mike. UA has some made in America. Nike? Some creativity please? Fun to imagine what other organizations would design. UT Jerseys by Airstream. Harley? What about Oscar-Mike? Contact Fruit of the Loom. Lazy-Boy redesign of the Glass Bowl. Those benches are way too cold in Winter and there's no place to put your feet.

These provider contracts; it's not just jerseys and jackets is it? Perhaps the UA equipment wasn't up to snuff?

LA-Z-BOY is a local company with it's world headquarters in Monroe on Stewart Road. They just completed a brand new building last year moving from Telegraph Road.
Cost: $12 Million

This has been known since last fall, press release may have been winter or early spring. Lots of UA gear was being pushed out at the rummage sale. All sports programs will be wearing NIKE gear.

Nike is the way to go. The Rockets will be looking fresh and clean in their new Nike getups.

If anyone can find a link to a press release of some sort, I'd like to know a little bit more about the switch.

What are you doing in the Glass Bowl in the winter? 03-wink

Im atually ok with this. The craziness of UA jersey switches were getting annoying.

RE: UT Football Switching to Nike? - UTROCKET - 06-01-2017 06:09 PM

Apparently a lot of people on this site are dreaming. There has been no press release and there is not a single article on the internet that mentions the move to Nike. I'm not saying that it's not going to happen, but in order for it to be done for the upcoming fall season an announcement needs to be made ASAP.

If we do sign with Nike I would love to see a rebrand of our athletic logos and word fonts. One that actually looks like they spent some time getting to know the culture of our university. I would like to see a primary T logo that incorporates a rocket. We need something that people automatically gets people saying Toledo and Rockets.

Under Armour did an amazing job with Cal and I am hoping that the next provider does the same for UT. Check out the link on UA's new contract with Cal.

Agree about the announcement needing to be made asap, also agree with your take on Nike incorporating Toledo's culture into the new unis/logo/what have you.

I really enjoyed the white helmets worn down in Little Rock for the Arkansas game. That all-white look is so clean looking.

Our logo (and uniforms) as is, is one of the coolest in sports. Even been recognized in some of those ubiquitous top ten lists. I'm not visualizing what's being suggested but I think it looks good as is.

What is the "culture of our university?" It doesn't rank high and neither does the city. People in the city barely support the university (and vise versa), some even working openly against it. I'd say the bigger mission is to get the University to take the lead in creating the culture.

What would you change?

You make a good point, as well.

I like the logo as is, but I'd be willing to look at proposed changes if someone thinks they have a better idea.
