ACC revenue down slightly to $373 million for the 2015-16 year, tax returns show - GTFletch - 05-20-2017 10:29 AM

MY Take AWAYS

The $403 million it earned the previous year included a $31 million exit fee payment from Maryland and a payout from its primary bowl partner, the Capital One Orange Bowl. In 2015-16, the OB hosted the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Despite the decrease in 2015-16, the ACC received more revenue from its television payout, up $9 million to $226 million. It also received $85.9 million in bowl payouts, and $20.6 million from the NCAA basketball tournament (also an increase).

My Thoughts
With the OB back in play and the Increase TV deal (Each ACC team should get a 3M bump for the ACC network (2017-18) being delayed to 2019) and we had the OB back and Clemson won the Natty. Getting over $400M should be expected 16-17!! and in 17-18 $450M plus... The question would be how much will ACC share be worth???

Georgia Tech’s payout from the conference fell to a conference-low $22.6 million from the $27.4 million it received in fiscal 2015. Georgia Tech played in the Orange Bowl following the 2014 season; we did not play in a bowl game after the 2015 season.

The ACC ended up at low end of the Power 5 in per-school distributions for fiscal 2016.

The SEC's ranged from $41.9 million to $39.1 million.
The Big Ten gave about $34.8 million to each of its 11 longest-standing members, and smaller amounts to Nebraska, Maryland and Rutgers.
The Big 12's ranged from $28.9 million to $28 million.
The Pac-12's were about $28.7 million per school.

The ACC's average distribution to its 14 full-member schools was $23.8 million to $26.2 million. Partial member Notre Dame received $4.3 million.

These are all within a tight just over 2 million range outside of Clemson, but can someone remind me what factors are considered in determining the payouts?

There's an expense reimbursement for playing in the ACC CG. Then there are expense reimbursements for playing in a bowl, but it various depending on which bowl. Clemson played in the ACC CG and (essentially) two bowls (Fiesta and CFP Championship), so they got the max reimbursements (football-wise).

It looks like total revenue was down $30M from previous year, with the lack of Orange Bowl in 2015-16 accounting for $27.5M of that. That will happen again in 2018-19.

Of course, all other P5 conferences will take a $40M hit THIS year, except for the ACC's opponent in the Orange Bowl, which will only drop $12.5M

Essentially this data represents BEST CASE for all other P5's vs. WORST CASE for the ACC. Next year's data will be best case for all five, followed by best for ACC and worst for all others (but one).

NCAA credits (these equal out after 6 years of being in the conference) and the ACC gives a post season/tourney stipend.

In 2018-19 the ACC should be getting 2M or 3M per school for ACC Network Delayed by ESPN ( I think that starts in 2017)

So in 2018-19 we should still top 400M??

We could be talking $500M range once the ACCN comes online. Figuring even $10M per school that would be an extra $150M.
