Congrats softball. A program that has pretty much been miserable since it's inception. Congrats Brad Irwin and staff!

Congratulations to the coaching staff and all the players! Well done.

This is truly a great story. I remember when just a couple years ago they were absolutely horrible- and they have always been bad as long as I can remember. Today, I actually took time to watch the game on ESPN3 and was very impressed with the team. ETSU athletics (with the exception of baseball) is really at a high level across the board right now.

Reminder - today at 4:30. Assuming we lose, then an elimination game Sat. at 2:30(?). If we win, then a winner's bracket game at 5(?).

Apparently it's on ESPNU. I saw one report that said it was on ESPN2, but I suspect that was in error.

Well, *that* was somewhat embarrassing. Not so much losing to a great Auburn team, but allowing 11 straight batters to reach base (ETSU's article says 10, but they said 11 during the onslaught on tv) - in a girls' softball game.
Just couldn't hit their high-quality drop-ball pitcher, nor hit the strike zone enough when we were pitching.

Mastering the understatement......

Quote:"We were playing well right there, and I felt good after the first three innings, but then the 10-run inning did us in," said head coach Brad Irwin.

Tomorrow vs. Notre Dame at 2:30. Don't know if it's on TV, but I kinda doubt it. If we happen to win, play again at 5.

It's on ESPN2. All the games are being televised this year.

Apparently.....after the apparently long-ish lightning delay, ETSU clawed their way back in it, only to lose 7-6 in 8 innings. No story available yet, that I can find.

I thought we were competitive. It was a fun game to watch, and we hit a 3 run home run with 2 outs in the 7th to tie the game and send it to extra innings. We very well could have scored a run in the 8th, but the opposing second baseman made a nice leaping catch to rob us of a run and end the inning. We obviously gave up a run in the bottom of the 8th to end the game.

Let's face it, the measure of success for every ETSU sport is, and should be, winning the conference championship. We are not often competitive in these national tournaments in any of our sports when we go up against the bigger schools. Thus, I hope these young women enjoyed their time at the tournament and recognize the accomplishment that they have been a part of this season.
