Cystic Fibrosis Sucks!!!! - DawgNBama - 05-09-2017 10:57 AM

I hate this illness with every fiber of my body, although I'm well aware that those who have it are born with it- its not like they catch it out of the air or choose to have it. Cystic fibrosis claimed the life of one of my closest friends, although he definitely didn't go quietly into that night. I am extremely thankful for the time I did have with him, and I'm glad I did meet him and was one of his closest friends. He even had a successful double lung transplant and lived to be in his thirties. I'm not angry at the doctors at all; if anything, I'm extremely grateful for everything that they did do for him at the Mayo Clinic hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. That being said, I still want to see a cure for cystic fibrosis and cancer too. I would like for those needing organ transplants to be able to get the organs they need and not have to take anti-rejection medicine, but I know that the technology for doing that is a long way off. Just had to get that off my chest though.

It's amazing the new drugs that have been developed for CF. Vertex has gotten approval for two drugs that help combat the disease at the RNA level. Protatalix Biologic, of Israel, has a new enzyme that really helps to clear out the mucous, making CF sufferers less susceptible to infections. Corbus Pharmaceuticals has a new drug in development for inflammation of the lungs, which causes all kinds of issues. There are even companies working on genetic therapy now for CF.

CF has a variety of different genetic defects that case the disease, so one needs to DNA profile to know how to treat it. But the drugs being developed for CF and other genetic diseases are literally breathtaking.
