Conference Realignment - ThunderDan49 - 05-08-2017 02:25 PM

So I came across this pretty cool conference realignment series that is being published all throughout this week. The first set of conferences has already been released and you can read it here. Unfortunately for UTRGV, you guys get drop kicked down the conference RPI ranks down to 27th. If you want to read about how the conferences are created and all that fun stuff, it can be found here. I am interested to see where the rest of the WAC teams end up since the conference does cover so much of the country.

Yeah I am interested in the rest of them. Keep me posted, I won't remember to check this haha

Another WAC school gets picked up in the second installmemt of mock realignment from NY Buckets. C'mon down, CSUB! You're headed to the fictitious Pacific Conference w/some current Big West, Mountain West, & Big Sky teams.

With Pacific also sliding out of the WCC for this imagined Pacific Conference, you might start to project that SU slides into their place among the likes of Gonzaga, St. Mary's, San Francisco, etc.

Here is NMSU, GCU's, and SU's.

NMSU and GCU look to be in the "new" CUSA like conference in this made up world.

Here is NMSU, GCU's, and SU's.

UMKC and CSU are also in there in The Midwest Conference where they geologically belong. I like that they kept GCU and NMSU together, but that traveling schedule really sucks. The second best matchup that I am sure all you NMSU fans will enjoy is the FGCU v. GCU matchup.

So all of the WAC kinda takes a step down in conference rank since the WAC was something like 16th or whatever. However, everyone for the most part has a better travel schedule expect for GCU and NMSU.

They kept Bakersfield and Fresno together I see.
Interesting, as it looks like they grouped all the CSU schools without the UCs in this.

Academic prestige is probably why, otherwise I could see them grouping them all together.

Ok, so I'm going to kind of hijack this thread....sort of. Relax, its fantasy too.
Alright, the BW has UCSB, UCI, Davis, UCR. Would they ever maybe consider breaking away with perhaps UCSD, Hawaii and maybe a private school or two and forming a new conference? I know that starting a new conference is problematic for auto bid regs. Or rather, I guess I'm asking...would they be interested if possible? The block voting habits of the BW plus this realignment talk has me just curious to see what people think.

For those who did not read the rationale here is a summary.
4 items looked at:

Overall athletics spending and men’s basketball spending:
Three-year average attendance:
Location
U.S. News rating

I think that this is a very interesting realignment. In many ways it takes emotion out and focuses on the things that should actually matter.

UCSB, Seattle and Denver to the WCC. I can roll with that. NMSU and Grand Canyon to the Fun Belt.

Utah Valley has finally found a home! Utah Valley ends up with bunch of Big Sky/Slummit teams with a few MW teams to prop up the conference. Also, conferences 8-12 can be found here.
On a side note, I love how he keeps the Ivy League together because in reality, that is one of the few perfect conferences that exists to date.
