Well R1 is tonight and it's been quite a few years since I've felt this clueless about what the Bengals were going to do in terms of position, not to mention specific players despite getting a relatively early pick at #9 this year. I guess my big hope is that there is a run on QBs and the Bengals get offered a boatload to trade down. The Browns might make a good trade partner if we can get beyond the animosity of the rivalry.
Garrett and Adams seem like the only stone-cold locks to be gone when the Bengals pick at 9. Everybody else is at least somewhat plausible to be there depending upon who you believe. If we stay put, I think I like OJ Howard best if he's available. No negatives unless you count the fact that Oklahoma's offense didn't get him the ball enough. He'd make a terrific complement to Eifert and/or replacement for when he gets hurt or walks as a free agent. Fournette and MCCaffrey would each be intriguing, but I'm thinking we can get a RB in R2 like Mixon or Kamara. I'm also liking Jonathan Allen as a R1 possibility if the Bengals medical crew isn't concerned about his arthritic shoulders but I don't know what their take is. Solomon Thomas would be tempting, probably Barnett too. On the other hand, Lapham is about as insider as it gets about the Bengals among the press corps and his guess was WR John Ross as of last night iirc.
LB Hassan Reddick seems to be quickly becoming the chic pick for the Bengals while fellow LB Reuben Foster seems to be falling on a lot of mocks lately due to injury and "maturity" issues. I'm not impressed with Richard Skinner, but he says the Bengals are still very interested in Foster and mocks him to us here.

If you go with Kiper/McShay, both have agreed that the Bengals go after Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama.

I'm not sure if he addresses there needs as much as Jonathan Allen or Ruben Foster, but if Mike Williams is available I'd take him. He might be the most physically ready player in this draft and could immediately be a 1000 yd receiver next to AJ. If the Bengals are going to keep Dalton, they need to give him weapons.

I love it. Out of the box. Most people that did mention WR spoke in terms of the 4th or 5th most likely position pick. Speed. Ability. Weapons.

I don't like when guys are drafted and all I hear about is speed. If the sport was track that would be awesome.
I would love to see this guy return kicks but I'm sure that spot is reserved for the 49 year repeat felon.

The Bengals lost their No. 2 and 3 wideouts last offseason when Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones Jr. signed elsewhere. Their offense suffered badly in 2016 as defenses were able to turn their sole focus to A.J. Green. Now, they add Ross to the mix opposite their star wideout. The breakout star of the NFL combine, Ross ran the 40-yard dash in 4.22 seconds -- a new record. He lit the Pac-12 on fire during his final season with the Huskies, catching 81 passes for 1,150 yards and an incredible 17 touchdowns. He comes with some injury concerns due to his slight frame, but he is a game-breaking player and much more than just a speedster. He's a complete wideout that can make plays at every level of the field.

With their first round pick at No. 9 overall, the Cincinnati Bengals selected University of Washington wide receiver John Ross.
ENQUIRER ANALYSIS
John Ross may be somewhat of a surprise pick at No. 9 overall, but the University of Washington receiver fills an immediate need for over-the-top speed across from A.J. Green. It was an element to the Bengals offense that was sorely lacking in 2016, and Ross brings that ability. He doesn’t fit the physical profile of most recent Bengals draft picks in terms of his size, but his deep ball ability, his route-running and surprising effectiveness in the red zone make him an attractive target.
There are medical concerns with Ross, who suffered multiple knee injuries and a shoulder injury while in college, though he recovered from all of them and played through the shoulder (labrum) before getting it fixed after the college season.
Aside from durability, big question now is where he fits in with the recently re-signed Brandon LaFell. It seems that 2016 second-round pick Tyler Boyd has found his niche in the slot and as one of Andy Dalton’s top third down targets, so will the Bengals use four wide receiver sets more often, work Ross in slowly or in specialty packages, or have LaFell be the primary backup across several positions?

ROLE EXPECTATION
With Green on one side and Boyd having proven himself in the slot, it makes sense that Ross would begin his Bengals career on the outside in order to have opposing defensive coordinators make a decision with where to roll their safety help. Ross could also challenge Alex Erickson on kick returns, and can line up in the slot in four-wide situations if LaFell is deployed as well.

“If you take the medical away from John Ross, he's going to make plays for you immediately, both in the kick game and the pass game. I don't think there is any doubt about that.”
CBS draft analyst Dane Brugler:
“Ross is an elite athlete and shows impressive polish for a player who switched between offense and defense his first two seasons and then missed all of the 2015 campaign due to knee injuries – his experience on defense helped advance his development reading coverages and understanding route depth as a receiver. He lined up all over the formation for the Huskies in 2016 and was a nightmare for defensive backs due to his vertical speed, sudden footwork and ability to manipulate coverages as a route technician. Ross doesn’t have ideal thickness on his frame and will struggle at times against physical press corners, but his combination of athleticism, tempo and ball skills makes him a home run threat as a receiver, ballcarrier and kick returner – one of the top-20 talents in the 2017 draft class, but his medical information will determine whether he is drafted that high.”
NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein:
“He should be able to step right in as a kick returner and a slot receiver, but teams with speed at tight end might utilize him outside to create extreme vertical stress on opposing safeties. If his knees check out as healthy, Ross is a likely first-round pick with the rare ability to become a high-volume slot receiver or a lesser-targeted, high-yield deep-ball threat.”

I was kind of hoping for Howard. Would be an absolute nasty Tight End duo (assuming Eifert is actually on the field).

Have to hope the Bengals did extensive medical research on his knees. Surely you don't waste a #9 pick with an unknown like that.

Hate the pick. Too many more other pressing needs. It screams of Mike Brown being enamored with the fact that he broke the combine 40 yd dash record. You have a Top 10 pick, you draft a (perceived) difference maker. He isn't.
