Hayford adds another 3 star - SeattleVandals - 04-20-2017 02:39 PM

His first two commits are 3 stars. After Gittens, now Dashawn McDowell will come to Seattle U from SMU. He will sit out the season, then have 3 years of eligibility.

6'5 185 guard

Averaged 1.4 ppg and 1.0 rpg last year at SMU in an average of 8 min per game. Limited time as true freshman but lots of potential.

Out of HS, had offers from:
SMU
St Louis
Cal
Arkansas
USC
Tulsa
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Weber State
Houston
Wake Forest
Kansas State
TCU

Two 3 stars within a month. Already blowing Dollar out of the water

Exciting times for the WAC!

RE: Hayford adds another 3 star - SeattleVandals - 04-20-2017 03:23 PM

SMU played all 5 starters 29-36 minutes per game last year, and their 6th man 20 mpg. McDowell had the 7th most minutes, but still at just 8 mpg. So limited min stunted his numbers. But 3 years of him will be great. Love the pick up

Sometimes you need a Dollar.
Other times, you just need CHANGE.

Congrats on the pick ups. Looking forward to seeing how SU progresses with this much needed change.

Think he could turn into anything big? Especially in a less competitive conference?

Having a year under his belt will be a huge boost for him. His teammates and the coaching staff absolutely love him as he is so hard working.

Yeah, Gittens and Hill is for this year while McDowell sits out. Probably will keep Means/Montoya at PG too for their careers

It sure beats losing 4/3 stars like NMSU is

RE: Hayford adds another 3 star - Clarity - 04-22-2017 04:52 PM

Lol. NMSU lost a 3 star to Eastern Washington who just lost Hayford. Now that is not impressive.

RE: Hayford adds another 3 star - SeattleVandals - 04-22-2017 04:57 PM

So that leaves SU with these players at guard/SF:

Gittens - Grad transfer Weber State
Hill - Grad transfer Wisconsin
Matej Kavas - WAC ROY, SO, mainly SF
Zack Moore - starter last year just put on scholarship, JR, can be SF
Malik Montoya - always hurt, PG/SG, JR
Morgan Means - PG/SG, SO
Aaron Nettles - true freshman PG/SG
Jack Shaughnessey - RsJR SG, bad player
Mattia Da Campo - SG, SO, lots unknown
Spurgeon - SF/SG, RSSo, always hurt
McDowell - sitting out this year, then RS SO

Will be interesting to see how it shakes out. Probably some transfers after this year

How good do you think this team can be?

This coming year probably up and down in the middle of the WAC. So many players that deserve minutes, but since Dollar left such a young team these grad transfers will eat their minutes and development.

Kavas, Menzies, Means, McDowell, Uleano all could become WAC 1st team by the end of their career. Theres tons of potential on this team, but very unclear how itll all work going forward with the new coach. After this year we will see a more clear picture and if Hayford keeps developing all these young guys, or blows up the roster. Either way, very confident SU will be competing for WAC titles in 3-4 years. Especially at the rate Hayford already has started getting better guys than Dollar almost ever did
