He was stressed over the decision, much like when he left Rice.

Great! Happy for him. He was huge for us and with the way things turned out glad he is getting a chance to play in the SEC.

Good from Igor! Best of luck!

so he's going to play for Mike White

RE: Egor to Florida - Fort Bend Owl - 04-18-2017 10:48 PM

I'll be rooting for Egor but I also wonder if this is the best fit for him. He struggled to score a bit when he went against bigger lineups. He excelled in the CUSA but I don't know if his game translates to the NBA, or to a college conference where he'll have to compete against 6-8 athletes. I do know he got a lot stronger for this past season, and was easily Rice's best rebounder. But again it's got to be easier to rebound against the smaller CUSA teams than he'll likely face in the SEC.

Good. Maybe we can get a road trip to see him play in Aggieland.

Is Igor a graduate transfer? If not, I assume he will have to sit out one year?

Yes, he's immidiately eligible

Okay good luck to him but he is taking a big risk playing in a new system and have only one year there..

I think that is why he is going to Florida and the SEC. If he can show well then he might have a chance to be a 6th or 7th man in the NBA. If not then he will have jobs waiting for him in Europe. I see this as an excellent choice by him.

Agree. Congrats to Egor. I wish Rice was a destination for guys to try and and win championships but it's not. When a guy is here for 3 years and gets a degree I have no problem with him trying to win one somewhere else immediately.

RE: Egor to Florida - OptimisticOwl - 04-19-2017 09:18 AM

I wonder what graduate degree he is going after at Florida that he could not find at Rice?

I'm guessing basketball.

This is not Egor-specific, but the graduate transfer program is always a sham. I don't blame the kids for taking advantage of it, but something like 70-75% of the students don't finish their graduate degree, because that's not why they go

I don't know if it is still so, but IIRC, originally the grad transfer was only if the new school offered a degree in a field not available at the old school.

Could have won a conference championship if the team stayed together, just saying..
