Actually the NCAA is a collegiate athletic association too...

UNC, NCSt, UNCW, ECU, App, UNCC, UNCA, UNCG to join NAIA?

By the way...if this passes (it wont'), I suppose if CUSA wanted to lighten their load a bit, they could just institute a boycott of NC....and UNCC would be ejected.

When sports involves itself in politics, politics gonna involve itself with sports.

That would be so wonderful. There are several angles on to why I think it would be wonderful.

Just some crooked North Carolina republicans trying to get cheap attention with a proposal that has zero chance in hell.

If this passes (99% probably won't), I'd say let the NCAA/ACC do it. Call their bluff. Would be fun to watch the meltdowns.

It's interesting to think of the possibilities.

Man, the SEC and Big Ten would be ALL over this.

Would be interesting legal battle. Grant of Rights vs. a Breach of Contract through the boycott.

ESPN wouldn't let it get that far, though.

Yeah, let's watch and see who blinks first if this goes thru

Well the SEC & B-10 have Badly wanted UNC, at the very least.....this could bring it about. I don't think anyone would've expected this would be tha avenue for that.....

Yep. Probably what they had in mind.

As a resident of Alabama, let me say:

Thank God for North Carolina.

LOL...

The NCAA decides to boycott anyway....And then someone sues East Carolina and says...sorry...you've got to leave the NCAA's....it would be a riot.

Remember, the NC General Assembly doesn't control the ACC or the NCAA. Its kind of dumb for them to try to give others a way to hammer their programs.

So, here's what I'd do if I'm the NCAA...I'd announce that NC hosting rights post 2020 will be contingent on no extension or other legislation extending the prohibitions.

---

BTW, stuff like this should be taken into consideration when conferences are seeking to extend membership bids to public institutions in North Carolina.

The bill doesn't specify the ACC...If the AAC wanted to ditch ECU, they could simply pass a boycott of NC...and ECU....would be required by law to leave and pay the penalties required by that.

And the NCAA is an athletic conference too. LOL. You really want to put ECU in a position that if NC does something controversial, that ECU will be compelled by law to leave the NCAA based upon a vote of University Presidents in other parts of the country?

I don't think you've thought about this. I'm pretty sure the sponsors of this bill haven't really thought about it either.

The problem w/ a state legislature trying to do stuff like this is that it would be phenomenally easy to get around.

This accelerates the time table for the final move of bringing in NC and VA into the SEC fold and then seceding from the NCAA altogether....

And thanks to the NC General Assembly...destroys the athletic programs at East Carolina, App, UNCW, UNCA, UNCG, UNCC and 90 percent of other athletic programs...

Did you see what happened when they came after UAB? Want to wager what would happen if they came after USM or ECU? I can only imagine the chaos.

The NCAA and the ACC can do whatever they want and the NC Gen Assembly can just take it.

Slow down grass hopper, this unlikely to pass but this just renforces my belief that neither UNC or NCSU move without the approval of the state. So no uNC to the SEC if that leaves NCSU in a watered down P5 conference
