Shots fired by Jake McDowell! - Johnny Betts - 04-05-2017 02:33 PM

I'm in no way sold on Tubby, but the Lawsons lost me when they came out of the timeout laughing while getting curb-stomped.

Don't want anyone here that doesn't want to be here. Plain & simple

BOOM!!

RE: Shots fired by Jake McDowell! - ncrdbl1 - 04-05-2017 02:40 PM

We are now OFFICIALLY ruing the day. A group of disgruntled fans got what they wanted, ignoring the real issues and we are now screwed because of it.

What does that mean?

I thought Pastner was treated horrifically, but also felt in spite of the shameful treatment by many, it was nonetheless time for a change.

Pastner was not a good coach nor was he a good fit. Doesn't mean some memphis players don't come with baggage. Both can be true at the same time.

RE: Shots fired by Jake McDowell! - Marc Mensa - 04-05-2017 02:49 PM

The cancerous Lawson family was brought here by a desperate coach who sold his soul to their father. The only day I'm ruing is the day we signed Josh Pastner to the most one-sided contract in the history of the university.

RE: Shots fired by Jake McDowell! - Brother Bluto - 04-05-2017 02:51 PM

Didn't he do the same thing when Austin left?

RE: Shots fired by Jake McDowell! - HoopDreams - 04-05-2017 02:51 PM

Who cares what he thinks? That's a dumb blanket statement anyway. It caters to the drooling masses. A simpleton statement that makes dummies nod and clap. Yeah, what he said. Go get him.

Maybe they don't want to be here because their dad is getting fired or pushed out or whatever. Maybe they don't like Tubby Smith. Maybe they are a cancer.

Maybe a lot of things.

But what Jake said is a meaningless platitude. He may as well say that Tiger fans love winning and the FedEx Forum is an NBA arena.

Duh

It's akin to Tommy West with the good ol boy "He's gone, he needs to stay gone."

All the butthurt nerds lapped that one up.

Now they got their scapegoats to whip for another year.

Lawsons will take the blame for Tubby's first 3 years.

Bet that.

Ask calipari? I think Most high level coaches follow that blueprint. The less local players the less headaches.

His dad is a Memphis legend. The kid made the team because of his last name. Tubby gave him a scholarship - just because. Of course he's going to be loyal to the program/coach above all else.

Not saying I disagree or that he's not entitled to his opinion. But it's easy to see why he says these things...

4 of the 6 times we have made it to the Elite Eight or better, our best player was from the Memphis metro area.

And if you want to say Rodney Carney was better than Shawne Williams, Carney's dad was from memphis and he had family here.

And it's debatable whether anybody was better than Jeremy Hunt on that 2007 E8 team.

Agree, but it's a dumb statement.

It's like saying, if you love your spouse, you won't cheat on them.

He states the obvious and it's celebrated.

Just dumb.

Joe Jackson's family rushing the bench and now this. Jeez and good riddance.

It's possible that it speaks to what Jake knew was going on behind the scenes and what other players thought of the Lawson dynamic.

I've been told other local players would not come here while Daddy Lawson was on the end of the bench, that certain high school coaches weren't interested in steering their players to the Tigers while he was on the team. Whether this opens the door to other local recruits actually committing here remains to be seen, obviously, but it's something to keep an eye on.

I've heard some of the same stuff

We will see

Problem is that Dedra and Keelon are now running the under16 AAU team

Not many were on his teams. And there weee tons of good Memphis talent to recruit. Like always. That was the point
