None of the two founders and two early key people given in this article appear to be Rice grads: Jeff Young ... said in a video interview (5:54-6:00) that he had a math degree and also studied chemistry and engineering, but doesn't mention where. This book said he'd worked two stints at Chemical Lime Co. in Alabama, which is located in Calera, not far from the University of Monetvallo. He did study at UT-Austin for what was described as "disastrous and short-lived." Suzy Shaffer: Colorado State. Davy Pasternak: UT-Austin. and Jessica Brook Deahl: Long Beach State. Here's the story of their name: Quote:It took Young and Shaffer around two months to land on a name for the brewery that they were happy with, and just as importantly, that hadn’t already been claimed by one of the other 3000+ craft breweries in the United States. BTW, here's an informative article about their "sour" brewing process: https://medium.com/this-is-an-experiment/the-tiny-workpeople-that-make-your-beer-de64ab259d99 RE: OT: Is Blue Owl Brewing Rice related? - JustAnotherAustinOwl - 04-05-2017 10:01 AM I tried their "Spirit Animal" brew last night while catching up with another Rice friend I hadn't seen in a while. Have to say the sour beer thing is an acquired taste which I have yet to acquire. Not sure I'm going to make the effort... |
