Sounds like a safety issue rather than politics.

Like Sam Elliot said in Tombstone:

(Fair to point out that Sam Elliot gets shot later in the movie. Hahahaha!)

It's a reasonable request, surprised the SEC and SWAC are not doing the same. It's hard enough with stadium security these days, but to have people carrying guns in emotionally charged sporting events is not a good idea.
