Only 9 coaches in this years tournament made more money than Tubby

our expectations are as should be expected

Maybe it was the 5 straight final fours and 2 national championships from 1958-63?

RE: Memphis Ranked #26 All Time Program - Penny Lane - 03-29-2017 10:31 PM

Most rankings I've seen don't go back that far. ESPN 50 for 50 in 2012 did a 50 year ranking. We were 19th but it stated we got docked for probation twice. Would have been 15th without deduction. In 50s, NIT was most important tournament; not NCAA. It was second rate.

Where's the cut line for the bluebloods?

Actually the 70s is when blue bloods started their runs in many instances. UCLA and Duke I'm fairly sure of.

There has been a 150+ post thread at the general sports board of TigerDroppings (LSU site that grew into something larger long ago, with a heavy LSU core still) this week on the very subject of college basketball blue bloods.

Memphis wasn't mentioned once, and I couldn't disagree with it.

ESPN ranked Memphis 19 (1963-2012 only) five years ago on more subjective merits, and would have been like 14-15 without the penalties. The AP one is much more narrow, only taking AP appearances (plus weeks being top-ranked) into account. It's why Jacksonville makes the T100 at all, despite obviously not being a T100 program to anyone else. Memphis is 25 overall in the all-time AP basketball rankings. 26 sounds right. But Florida will soon overtake us unless we get on track with Tubby.

RE: Memphis Ranked #26 All Time Program - snowtiger - 03-30-2017 12:36 AM

Tubby needs to get on track with us.

Basically a list of how many times you were in the polls. Which are often bias.

UK, KU, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Indiana. Loserville is next in line, IMO. Then it gets really fuzzy with Arizona, Syracuse, Michigan State, G'town, UConn.

There are definitely some teams slightly ahead of us here which are very debatable. But it's all numeric on rankings, so the longer we're out of the polls, the further we fall.

Weirdest thing to me is that Lousyville has only been ranked #1 on two occasions in their entire history. That's hard to believe.

RE: Memphis Ranked #26 All Time Program - AlonsoWDC - 03-30-2017 11:09 AM

I think Louisville gets Indiana's position.

I mostly agree with that, though.
