NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP JERSEYS BEING AUCTIONED!! - JMUTrippster - 03-28-2017 05:09 PM

In the JMU Sports update today there is a picture saying the jerseys will be auctioned off starting April 3! I bet these will sell quickly!

RE: NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP JERSEYS BEING AUCTIONED!! - olddawg - 03-28-2017 05:40 PM

While it would be cool to own one, sort of feel like the players earned them and should be allowed to keep them. Maybe they're just auctioning off the jerseys of "the suspended 7" as punishment. 05-stirthepot

I'm pumped for this opportunity. I don't think you'll get a jersey for less than $300 though haha.

Yea not much info on which jerseys are being auctioned, but perhaps it is for players that didn't want to keep them or these are an extra set (for some reason)? I also imagine they will be pricey but I will be looking!

This part of your quote I agree with. 04-cheers I kinda liked the idea they would keep the earned jerseys.

Maybe with the money they earn, they can take the full band next time. 05-stirthepot (hopefully not another 12 years later).

Time will tell, but I'd think some will be below $200.

Which Jersey will sell for the most? I'd guess Abdullah, followed by Schor.

The one I would be most interested in would probably be Steele.

For those interested to purchase to wear, be aware they are tight fiting and not as big as you'd expect.

Heard there are plans for this, but I'll believe it when I see it. Kinda like the alleged "interest" we have in FBS football.

That part of the post was for you. 04-cheers

Where are y'all seeing something about the jerseys being auctioned, I can't locate it anywhere, I'm getting one.

RE: NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP JERSEYS BEING AUCTIONED!! - Deez Nuts - 03-29-2017 09:44 AM

it was in an athletics email that went out yesterday.

I think there are NCAA rules that the players cannot have their jerseys because it's a gift or something?

Seems like they could sell them to them at cost......

I think very few would not of been interested in purchasing at cost.

Don't they typically give a jersey to seniors on senior day for most sports? I would assume there is a NCAA exception for that, they give them rings and trophies and whatnot right?

All the players received their jerseys from the National Championship. There is a gift limit per player per year. If the limit is 350 then they would deduct the cost of the jersey - say 75 and the total in other gifts would be less. There is a rumor that Coach Houston paid for the Jerseys for the players. As to the school selling the jerseys - they could be extras that they have in case a jersey get's damaged or lost etc...A player cannot sell or trade their jersey (that is if they would) The only NCAA limitation is that they can't sell a jersey with a players name on it. Some schools won't sell a jersey with an active players number. Has to do with the lawsuit a few years ago about schools making money off of individual players - (IE Video Games).

Well that changes things a bit if they are not the game worn jerseys. Perhaps the school purchases extra in case one got destroyed or lost, or perhaps to sell. In the past JMU sold the jersey and any name tag you want, but the name tag was not attached.

They could be like the pros and have them change uniforms during halftime so they have multiples of "game-worn". In baseball they're probably changing hats, gloves, cleats and all every inning during the World Series.

I'm sure Houston would have approved of taking part halftime to switch Jerseys

RE: NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP JERSEYS BEING AUCTIONED!! - DMadison - 03-30-2017 12:07 PM

The JMU Athletics email says "National Championship Purple Jersey Auction" - jersey being singular. It could be that they are auctioning 1 jersey or only a few, not the entire roster as with past auctions. Remember the helmet auction was only 1 or 2 IIRC, not the entire team.

I think making it plural in that sentence would sound awkward and auctions would have to be plural as well, gotta love the English language, but you may be on to something!
