Over 700 players transfer every year now. With about 350 teams, it works out to, basically, two players on every team, every year, now transfer. We relied on Fields because Evans backed out of his commitment. RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU - Old Dom Swag - 03-24-2017 07:16 AM Blaine kicked tons of kids off the team, especially at the end: Pimentel Coach Blaine Taylor confirmed Friday that reserve forward Jason Pimentel is no longer on the team. His departure leaves the Monarchs with five returning players and seven newcomers. "We did not invite him back," Taylor said. "We felt like it was in the program's best interest to move forward without Jason." Nayquan Mitchell Another player, junior college transfer Nayquan Mitchell, failed to qualify academically for the second semester last season and was not invited back. Breon Key His classmate, Breon Key, was dismissed in June for falling short of his "academic and social responsibilities." Wait a couple weeks until all the articles start posting about how many transfers there will be this year. Until then please shut your pie hole and go play in traffic. Hearing people ***** and others post articles showing them they're wrong and still bitching. You lose credibility and RR you're sounding like a clown. If you dont understand todays transfer market and how large it has become then thats your issue but it seems the rest of us understand it quite well. For whatever reason they're leaving, MORE THAN LIKELY FOR MORE PLAYING TIME. If you really want Travis fields or Randy Haynes getting significant playing time, clearly you dont care how our team performs and improves. Enjoy your packed lunch. RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU - jumpshooter - 03-24-2017 08:27 AM Well, I'm as sick of the constant bitching as anyone, and I question how much they really care about the school (Just MO), but I'll also admit that i very much dislike how we play, am discouraged by our lack of ability to adequately evaluate JUCOs, and completely turned off by our student body's apathy towards the program. So the naysaysers have some points. I'm just tired of reading them (yeah, I can skip over them, I'm aware). If we had better reporters covering the team, or if ODU hoops meant as much to the VP and DP as football seems to, we'd have some answers to these questions that keep coming up on recruiting, discipline. But we don't, so let the rampant speculation and misinformation roll. RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU - Gilesfan - 03-24-2017 08:30 AM There were 800 transfers last year and 351 college basketball teams. This year, the spring semester isn't even done yet and there are 200. RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU - T-Mac - 03-24-2017 09:03 AM Anyone concerned with Haynes & Fields transferring either don't care about Haynes & Fields, or don't care about Old Dominion basketball. Them transferring benefits all parties. Not to mention he has 80+ scholar-athletes to manage. Not sure JJ has ever even had a full team of 13. And what was done to the other guy set the tone. RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU - Gilesfan - 03-24-2017 09:33 AM We wouldn't like the "other guy" anyways. He's only a 64% free throw shooter and can only crack 6 points per game in 27 mins. I guess he has 1 more chance as a 25 year old senior to show everyone how great of a player he is! Exactly. Yet another recent recruiting failure that resulted in the need to rely upon a walk-on. Glad to see you are on board. I stated back then that I would have supported JJ's decision either way. The guy was a stud and I would have been fine keeping him if that was the decision, but I do understand he had to go. It's not like it was a fake discipline problem like he was caught smoking weed. Violence is a real discipline problem and the coaches would know whether or not he was salvagable. I am a JJ critic, but can't fault him with that one. At least someone was brought in worthy of significant playing time and at least the dismissal was justified. RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU - ODU BBALL - 03-24-2017 11:01 AM (03-24-2017 10:09 AM)Gilesfan Wrote: Just to rub in the coaching failure when someone talked about hiring his dad, Evans shot 40% from 3 this year and 84% from the free throw line...... That's great. How did Ambrose Moseley do this year? He didn't play for ODU either. Bottom line is that ODU failed to get the recruit and ended up replacing him with a walk-on (again). The reasons for failure to both get and keep recruits are what we are talking about here. Someone hiring his dad, didn't get the recruit to commit to ODU, behavior problems after coming to ODU, poor grades after coming to ODU, not getting the playing time and leaving, etc. seem to all be happening frequently during this coach's tenure, and it has caused him to rely upon walk-ons to an extent that we have never seen before at ODU. RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU - ODUCoach - 03-24-2017 11:02 AM And you guys do realize that some decisions regarding student athlete discipline isn't JJ's to make, right? ODU Athletics has a student-athlete code of conduct that outlines disciplinary measures for certain violations. Furthermore, the University has a judicial system that also has the authority to discipline (they are students, after all). Think of GG Goodhope (she was involved in the Douglas on-campus situation). I'm fairly confident Karen would have loved to have kept her (she did help her to transfer to VCU with a strong recommendation), but I'm also pretty sure Karen's hands were tied by ODU. |
