Amy Schumer Caught Stealing More Jokes for Netflix Stand Up Special - CrimsonPhantom - 03-18-2017 03:16 PM
Quote:Amy Schumer’s latest Netflix special, The Leather Special, has been slammed with poor reviews calling it “horribly unfunny.” But it also is getting hit with an even more career damaging accusation: joke stealing.
In the video below, two of Schumer’s bits are compared with old jokes told by Dave Attell and Dave Chappelle, and they appear quite similar.
In a 2003 set, Attell told the joke, “Do you ever black out while drinking, or as I call it time travel.”
Amy Schumer’s joke was “Has anyone ever blacked and been awake when they come out of it? It’s kind of cool cause you’re like a time traveler, and you’re just like, back in your body.”
Then in 2005, Dave Chappelle made a joke about having sex and his partner telling him “where to come.” Then he pointed to comical locations to shoot the ***, like on the TV and in a fish bowl. Schumer’s bit was very similar except she said, “in this jar.”
In both instances the Schumer variations were objectively less funny.

I don't think she consciously steals jokes like Mencia did. It's just that her comedy is so unoriginal. She just stumbles upon similar subjects where the punchline is always somewhat obvious. Her themes are: lady parts, weight gain, drunkenness, and sex. All of those are well worn paths in comedy. She doesn't have the skill to subvert the obvious, which is something that Ellen Degeneres would've been able to do with her eyes closed.
It's the same with some rappers. You follow a predictable rhyme and rhythm scheme long enough and the punchlines become more and more obvious. The great ones can unsettle your expectations, which makes the listening experience better.

The jokes she is being "accused of stealing" (I put quotes around that because it's an open and shut case) are word for word, exactly the same.

I'm with you. Amy Schumer is like Dice. Not funny at all, but people go so them.
I wonder if there's something primal in that. Do we find it to be indecent? Do we immediately find a woman's voice to be annoying (based off of our wives, sisters, mothers)?
I do enjoy old Ellen Degeneres shows though.

The vast majority of comics are terrible. Most can't get a laugh without dropping the F bomb.

I disagree. The vast majority are average. Terrible in comedy won't even get you a laugh with the F bomb.

When Dice first came out?...He was a killer on stage. His bits eventually ran dry.
I agree. Ellen was as good as female comics get.
Joe Rogan has talked about the challenges females comics have many times on his podcast. Even he says that there just are not but a handful of women that have the chops for standup.

There are a ton of them that I find totally unfunny. I do agree that many of them try to be as outrageous and profane as possible to get laughs. Working clean and getting laughs is very hard to do. I don't mind the profanity when it is appropriate. I cant stand comics that drop the F bomb in ever sentence. It shows a lack of intelligence IMO.

I think Schumer was funny when she first broke out, before half of her jokes became "oh I'm a slut and my p**** is so loose haha!" When that became her schtick and she started to get really political thanks to her uncle, she really lost me.

My definition of terrible is that the comic can't make me laugh. That definition applies to most. If you want to call them average, then you have a low bar for comedy.

Crowder did a YouTube video of him timing how long it takes her to do a slutty/drunk joke. She never made it longer than a minute between the jokes. She's a one trick pony. Trainwreck was a terrible movie too.

Maybe it is just me..but..I don't find potty mouthed women attractive or funny.
