All great news. Id love it if they moved forward on a true renovation of Scope (or a regional arena at MC) and toss in some money towards ODU stadium too. If they ever get that area around Harbor Park (where Stone Brewery was supposed to go) in order, that place has great potential too.

They just got a $500k grant to work on the area around Harbor Park;

Is there a larger picture of the one in that article? Looks pretty but way too small to see the notes and details.

Here's an article that has the developer's plan for Janaf;

As someone that owns way too much stock in his company, I'm pretty excited.

The only three things worth saving at JANAF currently are the BJ's, Wawa, and ABC Store. The rest can all fall to the bulldozers in the name of redevelopment/Norfolk arena (even if it is the wrong spot)/big ass Tide park and ride.

Va Beach's loss may soon be Richmond's gain if the plans for the new coliseum go through. They are looking at a massive redo in order to host NCAA regionals among other events, a hotel, and restaurants. I think there will be some more info on the project in February.

They were going to do that regardless of what happens with a Hampton Roads arena weren't they? The brown dump is worse than Scope and needs to be replaced. The only difference in it happening there vs not happening here is Richmond hasn't been chopped up into 5 competing entities fighting against each other, and the state seems to give Richmond the resources for whatever it wants.

He was fired from his company today. It was in the WSJ but I'm too lazy to link. Resigned from the BoD afterwards.

How the hell they get to use our utility money to build a new DOMINION ENERGY Arena is beyond me!

RE: Virginia Beach arena update - Monarchist13 - 01-31-2018 01:49 PM

You may want to re-read that article, Mac.

This is what I was referring to the other day. Sounds like this is really going to happen.

Not sure why 13.

"A group of investors LED by Dominion Energy CEO Tom Farrell is said to be backing and gaining momentum". (He gets paid by all of us and they have a monopoly)

"The company has secured a website domain for the potential endeavor, purchasing through an affiliate the rights to DominionEnergyArena.com"

"Dominion spokesman Ryan Frazier did not return a request for comment on the company’s involvement."

RE: Virginia Beach arena update - monarx - 01-31-2018 03:03 PM

Must be nice to have corporate businesses that would support things like that. Norfolk Southern Arena? Dollar Tree Arena? Stihl Arena? Smithfield Foods Arena? NOPE.

That's because Richmond is a real city, not this hodge podge of suburban trash

They are a monopoly. But why should we have any say over what a private individual does with his own money?

I'm madder that they lower their margins on marketing expenses like naming rights and commercials, when they don't need to market at all and could have the same margin by lowering the cost of their monopolized product.
