Trump exempts Keystone XL from "Buy American" order - Tom in Lazybrook - 03-03-2017 03:28 PM

So DJT and the GOP say that Keystone would bring American jobs, then DJT goes out and specifically refers to pipelines being made with American steel. That lasted all of two days, apparently.

So lets recap. DJT wants to build a pipeline to allow a FLOOD of cheap Canadian production undercut American producers, won't mandate that Americans be helped in the construction, and won't mandate that any of that production stay here in the US to help US consumers (its all going to China).

Not only did he lie, but he's a really crappy negotiator.

RE: Trump exempts Keystone XL from "Buy American" order - Hood-rich - 03-03-2017 03:32 PM

Quote:“The Keystone XL Pipeline is currently in the process of being constructed, so it does not count as a new, retrofitted, repaired or expanded pipeline,” the White House spokeswoman said.

This is a bad look. Hopefully he can fix it.

I'm not going to read the article because you are already lying. I remember what Trump said when this happened (and it was a lot longer than two days ago, so another lie.) Trump said that they must use US steel where they could. He never said ONLY us steel. So, if you are already lying, Im' betting the article is a lie as well.

Posture all you want but it is the right move.

hasn't this been mentioned with the XL for years now? I thought someone would have reversed this by now.

He is a much better negotiator than you, more successful also. The pipeline and any infrastructure projects should be awarded to the best and lowest cost contractors. There should not be american made steel mandates. I disagree with Trump on this.

What did he say during his SOTU speech....

However, in his address to Congress earlier this week, Trump spoke of the order in the same sentence as Keystone but carefully described it as directing "that new American pipelines be made with American steel."

And in public comments in February

“We put you heavy into the pipeline business because we approved, as you know, the Keystone Pipeline, but they have to buy ... steel made in this country and pipelines made in this country,” Trump told U.S. Steel Chief Executive Mario Longhi at a Feb. 23 meeting.

And that's before you get to the literally thousands of statements by Republicans going back years claiming that the pipeline would result in American jobs.

Let me guess, the American job will be at a lobbying firm in DC, cashing checks from foreign companies to get special deals that screw the US worker, the US economy, and the US environment.

RE: Trump exempts Keystone XL from "Buy American" order - Hood-rich - 03-03-2017 03:46 PM

Problem is that apparently the contracts were all in place. KXL is a private project being built by a Canadian owned company so they are not beholden to any buy America clause. That said, I hope that Trump can negotiate something.

If I recall correctly (and I usually do) there is some ridiculous $$$'s figure already tied up in pipeline that was made and stockpiled going back several years. Who knows where that came from, but you don't just sit idly by while the inept federal gubment bats this thing around over and over and over again.

They felt it would get approval at some point and you gotta be ready to roll, so there was a Yuuuge pile of pipes sitting there waiting. Someone expect them to just scrap all that and start over? 03-lmfao

Trump has been campaigning on set asides for American steel mandates for 2 years now.

To be clear, I don't think that we should have mandates. But DJT campaigned on them, and is deliberately misleading his supporters, if not outright lying to them.

Trump was the one who came up with this stupid "Buy American" policy. Apparently, it lasted a whole 2 days.

I would say that Trump got punked by Canada. But he or his family probably has some interest in it. Trump really just punked American workers here.

Tom Tom Tom, I bet back before the election you never dreamed that today you'd have to be constantly reaching up your rear to find something wrong with the newly-elected president.

BTW, clean those fingernails.

Are you kidding with this or please tell me you're not serious.

Who do you think is gonna get the pipeline all put together, regardless where the actual pipe comes from? Dig the ditches, install the supports, clear land, engineer all this stuff, on and on and on?!?

You nuts, or just a full blown case of TDS?

RE: Trump exempts Keystone XL from "Buy American" order - Hood-rich - 03-03-2017 03:54 PM

so where does it say they Trump himself exempted anything?

Quote:Trump signed the order calling for the Commerce Department to develop a plan for U.S. steel to be used in “all new pipelines, as well as retrofitted, repaired or expanded pipelines” inside the U.S. projects “to the maximum extent possible.”

the last 5 words are key. Again, the KXL contracts are all most likely in place. Hopefully Trump can do something there. If if he can't I'm not going to panic.

so KXL is about 1/2 to 2/3 complete. 75% of the pipe is under contract , in production or in place. so what do you think this quote means?

http://www.platts.com/latest-news/metals/london/factchecking-trump-directive-to-buy-american-21038087

Quote:"We have cleared the way for the construction of the Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines -- thereby creating tens of thousands of jobs -- and I've issued a new directive that new American pipelines be made with American steel," Trump said.

NEW pipelines... NEW.

These are mostly going to be very good, high skill/training jobs. This ain gonna be bringing in a 100,000 Chinese to drive rail spikes.

Sorry Tom, I fear you're way off on this one. Guess time will tell.

Yea, there's no contradiction here.

They have already invested 2.5BB dollars in the pipe and etc., that was as of 2015. So, no. zerO could have mandated US steel be used, but he didn't. They sure as heck can't be expected to just trash it and drop another 3BB to start over. That's just TDS nuts, speaking.

Moving forward as we build even more BIG, BEAUTIFUL, efficient pipelines, US Steel will be used. Good move.
